1-Night Stopover in Basingstoke

On arrival, found a fairly small car park outside that was very busy. Check-in was seamless and easy, so no issues there. Pleased to see a lift (elevator) as well as the more customary stairs.
This hotel is located in the city centre, so walking to Festival Place where there are shops, banks, restaurants and entertainment is a matter of under 5 minutes.
Got to the room and found it small, very warm (too hot actually), very tired decor, a tiny, tiny bathroom with barely enough space for ones feet when using the toilet, a very dusty and elderly extraction fan and almost nowhere to put anything like ones bathroom bags etc. The shower is fitted at one end of the bath, and this dis work fairly well, with a constant (fully adjustable) water temperature throughout.
The room itself was just barely adequate in terms of space around the bed and places to put bags and cases. Thankfully we were travelling very light as this was just a 1-night stopover. There is one small standalone wardrobe.
The bed - indescribably hard - more like a ping-pong table than a bed. So hard that I tossed and turned all night and my poor wife could not get comfortable at all (ladies have hips). . . . . both the pillows were hopeless and the duvet was just too hot. It was like sleeping in a nylon sleeping bag.
So very little good quality sleep and with a long journey ahead of us the next day.
Breakfast was included in our package, so we gave that a try and were pleasently surprised at the service, quality
