Peaceful setting, great food and service

Posted May 21, 2016 on Hotels
Probably the best hotel stay this year. Amazing grand old building in quiet grounds. View from bedroom window was cows and ducks across fields! Really helpful staff (I wasn't happy with room location near the goods bay, they upgraded me to a better room the next night. Reported the shower not working at more than a dribble, came back next day to a new power shower. What great service. The evening meal on the first night was absolutely 5 star (slow roast belly pork) second night was average (different chef!) Breakfast buffet was the best I've had. I recently stayed in the Hilton and this hotel rated well above that, for cleanliness, service, staff, food, and environment.

Unique - beautiful historic country Manor/Estate

Posted Dec 17, 2015
Pros: It's unique buildings, grounds, quality, food and friendliness. I could't fault it.
Cons: Have today's royalty stay at the same time or have Queen Elizabeth 1 return as a ghost!
Location: I arrived late and left early and in the winter. Even so the facility was well lit and looked superb.
A unique experience where you feel privileged to be staying given its history and the experience of staying where Queen Elizabeth 1 once stayed, although the building has changed/improved since then. This may not be the Savoy or an ultra modern Westin or Hilton, but it oozes character and the buildings and grounds are magnificent. The room had everything one needs and the bed exceptional. I regret I arrived too late to dine but the breakfast was superb - lots of choice and abundant quality. I have stayed in some very prestigious hotels all over the world this year but for overall character and quality this one ticked all of the boxes for me especially as I like to be in the country rather than the city. It was great in December but I guess it would be even better in the summer given the grounds.
