Beautiful, wonderful staff, the rooms are huge. -1 star because of no A.C. the staff did open the windows and sliding glass doors, but with all three fans on, we were still to hot to sleep comfortably. But who needs sleep with all the beauty around you. It is pricy, but with the limited options they can really charge whatever they want.

Should offer ac and tv as option. Way too hot and some people like to wind down with tv.

Beautiful resort - a true gem!

Posted Aug 29, 2017
Pros: Remote access, uncrowded, raw beauty, and local vibe.
Cons: It would be great if there was a Luau hosted onsite. Unfortunately the closest ones are 3hrs away in Wailea and Lahaina.
Location: Things to do: Beaches, snorkeling, surfing (BYOB), hiking, sight-seeing, waterfalls, 4x4 off-roading, horseback riding, relaxing.
If you're looking for an experience that puts the heart of the island into you and is set in a location which emits a true Hawaiian vibe, this is the place for you. It sits just minutes away from world renowned Hamoa Beach and the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. The resort itself stands out against the surrounding raw, untamed landscape and is beautifully maintained. The rooms and bungalows are spacious, and nearly every one of them has a view of the ocean and fragrant flowering trees (Note: The natural ocean breeze is your only air conditioner). Getting to Travaasa Hana is not for the faint of heart - you have to navigate the 600+ sharp turns along the famed, "Road to Hana" or take a short flight between Kahului airport and Hana airport. Each day a calendar of planned activities is posted and you can choose from lei making, paddleboard lessons, yoga, powered gliders, horseback riding, etc. or ask any friendly staff member to recommend a local site or must see activity outside of the resort. I highly recommend the horseback riding, as it takes you for a 45min walk along beautiful oceanside paths with breathtaking views that you cannot get elsewhere. The two onsite restaurants are decent but pricy; there are a few options off-resort from various food stands and food trucks within a 2-5min drive (most open from 11AM-4PM). Some of the best Hawaiian BBQ, Thai, and seafood is found here. I highly recommend Huli Huli Chicken and Buddha BBQ.

Remote quiet and relaxing

Posted Jul 11, 2017
Pros: location, pool, setting
Cons: Having a closer usable beach
Location: Hiking, exploring, photography, beaches (by road), interesting, small lunch places tucked away in remote places
A decent hike by road or a spectacular 20 minute flight from Kahului, remote setting, 70 acres for 70 rooms and well spaced out, although each bungalow comprises two suites, so not completely private unless you book both suites.

Great resort in Hana

Posted Jul 10, 2017
Pros: We stayed in one of the cabanas near the pool, and loved the setting, convenience and service.
Location: Hana is remote and hard to get to. But well worth the trip if you have time and energy. Lots of beaches and hikes to explore down there.
It is really the only big resort in Hana, so if that is what you are looking for, it is your only choice. That said, it is expansive with great ocean views, great rooms and great amenities. We loved it.

Best Service in the most Hawaiian place left

Posted Jul 6, 2017
This place has the friendliest, most helpful staff I've experienced anywhere, which is helpful given that Hana is almost other-worldly isolated from most of Hawaii by a 2.5-hour cliff-side drive that many find unnerving. If slow, isolated, and relaxed are what you're looking for, Hana is where you should be looking, and the Travaasa is the place to find it. Be aware that none of the accommodations in Hana have A/C, which is thankfully rarely needed.
