Staff and location are winners....... BUT!

We chose this hotel based on the rave reviews, however, we were disappointed.
Please let me start by saying, the staff here can't be faulted. They were delightful to deal with from the moment of booking. They were always helpful, warm & welcoming.
The location too is incredible. Located in the heart of the Old Quarter, it's an easy 5 min walk to the lake and the hotel is surrounded by beautiful places to eat & drink.
However - it is 20 metres to St Josephs Cathedral. Gorgeous to look at, but the bells toll every 15 minutes. This is fine during the day, but they go from 5am until midnight. At 5am they ring for 5 minutes straight. With two small children, it wasn't the nicest way to start the day!
We were located on the 3rd floor, with 4 floors located above us, every time anyone from the above floors flushed their toilet, our toilet would make lots of noise, sometimes overflowed, and we were left with bits of toilet paper and faeces in our toilet. Not to mention the smell - it was putrid.
We had also organised pick up and drop offs to the airport. The pickup was by a lovely man in a big air-conditioned 4WD, however, the drop off was in a taxi. I was booking a car to avoid taking a taxi.
This hotel is also a walk up, there is no lift - it was no problem for us, but worth mentioning in case you have trouble with stairs. The staff carried all our bags up despite our protests, really - they are the best thing about this place.
