At first glance we were a bit weary of the place as the downstairs is quite cluttered and the house was very old, but after settling in we had quite a good experience. If you want a place in Harlem that has lots of character and a really comfortable bed, at a great price, this is the place for you. The house is decorated perfectly for Harlem and it really gives you the feel for what it was like back in the day. The stairs creaked something awful, but actually that ended up being part of the charm. Be ready to carry your suitcases up these creaky stairs, however, as there is no elevator. The air conditioning worked well, thankfully, as we were there in the heat and humidity of the summer and were drenched by the time we walked up from the subway five blocks and up the two flights of stairs. Jeremy is very laid back, don't be put off by his relaxed personality. He (and his staff) are really very accommodating. They even washed our cloths for us for a small fee which saved us valuable touring time! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

This is the second time I stayed at Michael's guest house and certainly look forward to stay there on my next trip to NYC. Four guest rooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 full kitchen. The bed is comfortable and the place quiet. The guests have always been friendly and interesting. Michael is a nice and helpful host. Great for solo traveller or young couple. The place is located in a beautiful private street of historical houses and about 50 meters from the subway.

The B&B is in a 114 year old house in Harlem. The ambiance reflects its era and origin. It is clean, quiet and comfortable. A sumptuous and elegant breakfast is served. It's location, while being a long subway ride from Mid- and Lower Manhattan, is but five blocks from an express train station. It's neighborhood reflects the gradual gentrification of Harlem.

Our group of 6 really enjoyed our stay other than the cold weather. The hotel really didnt accommodate us. I suggest you bring a heater. Chris the doorman was great. James on the other hand was not very welcoming. He should smile more.

It is a great place super affordable especially if you're a student! It is a little ways from down town but the subway is literately around the corner so transportation is easy. Truly a great place, I'll honestly stay there again the next time I visit NYC

I visited Harlem for a business trip and wanted a studio apartment instead of an overpriced hotel. I am so pleased that I found Estudio 129. Ron (the owner) was incredibly helpful, and was very accommodating when I arrived early to drop off my bags. He was also very kind in offering me some information on the neighborhood, which was helpful for a first-time visitor like me.
The apartment itself was very well maintained and clean, and there was way more room than I needed as a single traveler--the room could easily house 4-6 people. It was also awesome in that Ron provides all the basic appliances and kitchen essentials (including a toaster, a microwave, coffee machine, coffee and filters) as well as a computer and printer. There's also excellent WiFi connections, which was important for me as a business traveler. There's also cable TV, access to space heaters (which I never needed even though I visited in January), and a seemingly brand-new full-sized refrigerator and stove.
If you're looking for a great place that is affordable and located in a non-touristy part of Manhatten, I highly recommend Estudio 129.
