Wayne and Kim have a wonderful property. On arrival I was told I was being upgraded at no charge. What a wonderful room, comfortable bed. Big cushy pillows. The breakfasts were very good. Overall I was ecstatic at the service provided and value. Would return again, no hesitation at all!

Thank you for your kind review. Kim and I try to make our place a B&B we'd like to visit ourselves. Nothing fancy, comfortable, and a nice home-cooked breakfast is what we have to offer.

Wayne and Kim are excellent hosts. Their home is beautifully appointed and well maintained. It is obvious they care a great deal about providing quality services.

It's easy to be good hosts when we have such great guests. We try to make our B&B a place that we'd like to stay at when we travel. There are plenty of historic places to see, shop at, or nature walk the miles and miles of trails at the McLean Game Reserve or even more miles of paved paths on the "Rails to Trials". I can't forget to mention all the great restaurants in Granby. We have more of them than the town's population can support. So many people are coming from surrounding towns to enjoy what we have to offer, and they are not disappointed.

Thank you for that kind review. Kim and I try to make our B&B a place where we'd like to stay ourselves if we were traveling. We've had some really great guests come through the doors for a brief stay. In and out never to be seen again. Then we've also had repeat guests that have come multiple times a year for many many years.

Thank you for your stay. The Truman Gillet House B&B is named after the original builder Truman Gillet. He was a cooper, building barrels for all the local business people to ship goods all around the world. Many different grains were ground and shipped from the still-standing Old Mill Pond grit mill 1.2 miles away. Also, just a few houses North was the town Pegville, where they manufactured wooden pegs, as the steel and iron industries were not available in the U.S. yet to make nails. The pegs were used in holding furniture together, house and barn construction, and holding the soles of shoes to the upper leather portion. This way the owner of the shoe could replace the sole by themselves, iron needs were very expensive and hard to get back then. Learn more when you come to visit next time.

We're glad you had an enjoyable time while visiting here.We grow a sizeable patch of pumpkins to decorate around the house for the fall season. It's cheap to buy 4 packages of pumpkin seeds and grow them instead of the hundreds of dollars it would cost if we had to buy pumpkins. We had one that was so heavy that it took two of us to left into the wheel barrel, which flattened the tire.

Comfortable and Inviting
This is a very nice, clean, comfortable, inviting B&B. Wayne and his wife love sharing the details about the property and town where they have lived for many years. The breakfast is nice and the scrambled eggs were very fluffy! We were the only guests the night we stayed so it was quiet and private even with the shared bath. It would be nice to have access to coffee/tea and cold drinks at our leisure and fruit or a snack.

Thank you for your kind review. There are no shared bathrooms for the two rooms we offer. The Connecticut Room Suite has an En Suite bathroom, while the Granby Room has a private bathroom that is two steps from the bedroom door. We had the ability for guests to have coffee, teas, and a bowl of fruit was left out on the dining room table in the past. Only a few guests in all the years we had it available made use of it, so we discontinued it.

Thank you for your review. It was enjoyable having a good conversation with you and talking about all shops and fantastic places to eat in and around Granby. The kids were a delight to have here as we don't get many here. As for the "pup", Allie is 16 years old and still has a good spark to get herself up and running around outside while quite and mellow in the house.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a staycation in Connecticut. We stayed at the Truman Gillet B and B, and had an absolutely fantastic, relaxing weekend. The hosts, Wayne and Kim, are phenomenal!! Extremely friendly and welcoming. Our room was more than adequate! It was absolutely lovely! Mini fridge, microwave, whirlpool bathtub, all included! Wayne prepared us a delicious hot breakfast, including his famous blueberry pancakes. The Inn is immaculate! We highly recommend a trip to the beautiful sites of northern Connecticut, and a stay at the Truman Gillet B&B. Thanks for everything, Wayne and Kim. We’ll see you again soon!

Another good review, we must be doing something right. My parents brought us up to treat everyone that you come in contact with as you would like to be treated. I like to cook, being taught by my Mom to make simple dishes that taste good. The wild blueberry pancakes are by far the most requested breakfast we make and they always puts a smile on everyone's face that eat them. I also have some interesting stories to tell about making those pancakes and collecting/marking maple syrup. Ask me when you come next time.

Thank you for the compliment on the breakfast. They are simple, home style cooking that should get you to lunch time without a problem. If we are making a fruit salad we make just it before we serve it so it's the freshest it can be. We get the eggs from across the street that are free range chickens and you may even hear the roster now and again. We get local milk and cheeses also as we believe you have to start with fresh local ingredients to make a good meal. Granby has some really good restaurants for it's size and if our town doesn't have exactly what your looking for the surrounding towns do. We keep a three ring binder with the best restaurants in the area for our guests to choose from.

How is this helpful to anyone? If you don't tell me what was wrong how can I correct it for any other guest. If I don't know whom the guest is I don't know when whatever happened to know if that was a single case problem or if something still needs to be corrected. I think it's very unfair to me and other guests as to why we rec'd such a poor rating with no ability to correct it.

Typical Little New England Gem of a hotel
Very charming and quaint B&B located just outside the equally quaint town of Granby. We chose this because it was close to Enfield where we had a family event the following day, and were VERY pleased we did. Innkeeper Wayne was the perfect host - helpful and chatty, very knowledgeable about the Inn and the area, lots of recommendations on places to visit and where to eat, etc. The Connecticut room was a delight, warm and cozy and great comfortable bed. Breakfast also very good, and great way to start our visit to the area. Unfortunately we were too early for the Fall foliage, but if we can time our visit better next time, Truman Gillet will be high on our list of places to return to. Recommend very strongly. Great location for visiting the entire area, so many charming little towns and villages, even just to drive to and thru.

Robert, Thank you for your kind words. Kim and I have tried to make the Truman Gillet House B&B a place that we'd like to visit ourselves. Connecticut is a small state and is packed with places to visit or views to see all within a short distance. We told a guest from Texas about some places to visit that were about an hour away. His response was "That's nothing, it takes 45 minutes just to get to the local grocery store and over an hour to get to a Home Depot." It's all in prospective I guess. We do have a lot to see right here in Granby, CT from 4400 acres of nature walking, Rails to Trails, shopping, antique shops, museums and farms all around. There are also many artists and galleries to visit. There is always something to see or do rain or shine.

This was a very charming B&B. My wife and I just wanted a little place to get away from the everyday hassle of life while our son was away at camp. The location was not too far from stores if we needed supplies. There are 2 rooms available. We stayed in both. The first night we were in the smaller of the two rooms. ONLY stay in this one if you are just looking for a bed for the night. It was on the small side and had a private bath outside the room. For the rest of our stay we stayed in the larger. Much more room. Attached private bath. A lot more amenities. The air conditioning in the room worked very well, which was good because it was very hot and muggy during this particular week. The breakfast served was very good. Overall our stay was pleasant and relaxing. A couple things I would change or do different: there was no air conditioning in the 'sitting room'. The sitting room and breakfast area is an open floor plan. It was extremely hot. The first breakfast we sat with the other party that stayed the first night we were there. We all were sweating. It is not fun to eat when you are sweating. Also, it would have been nice to be able to choose from a couple different items for breakfast.

Thank you for your review. Everything stated was spot on. The front Granby Room is very small, however, I can only work with what I have so I'll see what I can do with descriptions the booking engines web sites use to reflect what is actually available. We did look into getting the sitting room and dining areas air conditioned many years ago, however, the cost was very high for only using it for 5 to 10 days a years. I also detest the look of the window air conditioners hanging out the street and driveway sides of the house. But new products come out all the time so I'll re-look into a new split system or see what they have for options to cool those rooms. The window air conditioners just doesn't go with the look of a period house built in 1805. The vast majority of guests I've found over the years waffle over the choices we were giving them for breakfast. Their indecisiveness led to more heated discussions within the guests as to which is the best breakfast. And then many times everyone wants a different breakfast. We don't have the capabilities to make a different breakfast for everyone. So we state a breakfast type that we'll be having to see if it's agreeable to all. I've made many specialty breakfasts over the years, having said that I would be glad to make a special breakfast requested by the guests if it's all the same or similar for all in the party. Like everyone getting pancakes; blueberry, apple, gluten free or such can be easily handled. But not bacon, ham and sausage by three different guest can't. Thanks for the review as I learn something new with every one I get.

Thank you for your review, short and to the point. Your comment "very clean scrumptious breakfasts." made my wife Kim laugh. She said "I'm glad he enjoyed our very clean breakfasts" I say what's a comma or two between friends. It's easy to be a good host when you have great guests as Larry was.

Cozy.Comfortable.Conveniently located by airport.
Had a flight to take. Just felt better than the typical sergical room on Airport rd. We had the house to ourselves. Breakfast ready at your convenience. Loved the dog!

Bradley Int'l Airport is just 8 1/2 miles away with with just one turn to get to our place. With only 2 rooms at our B & B there is a 50/50 shot of having the place to yourself. Were not big, were not fancy, but we do make a good hearty breakfast or a light easy fair depending our your needs. Allie, our cockapoo loves the guests and is always willing to preform her repertoire of tricks to impress anyone that is willing to watch.

Wayne and Kim were terrific hosts in this beautifully restored 1800's bed and breakfast spot. A historical hidden jewel, located in Grandby, CT, northwest of Hartford, made a wonderful romantic getaway. Very peaceful, comfy and cozy feel, with a modern jacuzzi hot tub, which was a great combination for a relaxing and rejuvenating time. The full-size homemade breakfasts were delicious and Wayne's made from scratch blueberry pancakes were a hit! There was plenty to do and see in this quaint farm town. The Sweet Pea Farm and Dairy has delicious home made goat and cow cheese with various fruits and herbs. The winery located a few miles away and antique stores, shops and orchard located through out the area, made for an adventurous itinerary. For more sophisticated discoveries, Hartford is about 25 miles south of Granby for a nice day trip out. We will have to stop by again when coming through town! Thanks for a wonderful visit -Young & Oliver

It's so nice when people express their ability to find charm in our home and surrounding area we live. My Mom taught me how to cook well enough and then some so I or you wouldn't go hungry. Even though Granby, CT is a small town we are filled with places to go to, things to touch or good food establishments to eat your way around with minimal driving.
