The hotel facilities in general and the spa experience in particular was wonderful. James with the concierge staff was particularly helpful in planning our off-property excursions and dining.

It's a bit far away from all the action so I recommend people rent a car if they want to do stuff on the island. But it's extremely luxurious with gorgeous grounds.

Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, large rooms, very comfortable beds, excellent restaurants with nice mix of choices. Perfect to have a large pool and also beach access on site.

Relaxing, Refreshing, Re-invigorating

Posted Jul 10, 2016
Pros: Gorgeous hotel - sandy beach, paddle boarding, snorkeling, gorgeous pool, fragrant flowers everywhere, waterfront dining under the palms, spa ..
Location: NW Big Island - loved the petroglyphs, drive to the observatory through low lying clouds, shops in Kona, black sand coast near Hawi, Waimea rodeo ...
Wonderful experience. Completely relaxing. Gorgeous facility. Glorious sunsets. Something for all ages in our wedding group.

It was a beautiful resort, right on the beach.

Posted Jul 6, 2016
Pros: Everything but the cost of the food.
Cons: Lower prices on the food.
Location: We liked that it was not so much traffic. We went to Wiamea for breakfast and lunch. Also, Hawi and did the hike down to the black sand beach.
We had a great time at the resort. Our room was spacious for four people. We appreciated that there were two sinks in the bathroom plus two showers. Also, the refrigerator in the room was very convenient. We enjoyed the lighting of the torches each night. The snorkeling was fantastic. We swam with the green turtles and saw lots of different fish. It was a relaxing time and it was great that my two teenagers could go off by themselves.

Nice meets expectations

Posted Jun 29, 2016
Pros: Great fro snorkeling, has a lagoon where little kids can safely play in the water. Lots of fish and green turtles. Shopping markets nearby.
Cons: Some of the carpeting is a little threadbare. The toilets are extremely slow. The prices in the restaurants are exorbitant.
Location: Shopping malls nearby. Golf and tennis, hiking. 2 hours to Hilo, the capitol of the Big Island. Volcanoes National Park is 21/2 hrs from the Hotel
Lovely hotel, needs some refurbishing. Food is very expensive. $ 23+ hamburger!? The green turtles, HONU, come out of the water in the afternoon to warm themselves on the lava rocks. You definitely need water shoes. Lots of waterspouts.

Nice hotel with pricey food

Posted Jun 26, 2016
Room was clean; beds comfortable. Food was over priced with limited choices. Close to Hapuba Beach, Queens Shopping center and airport. Queens has more food selections

Not too big and overcrowded. Shady staff...

Posted Jun 20, 2016
Pros: New. Not overcrowded.
Cons: Honest business conduct would be great.
Location: Head to Hilo and take the Blue Hawaii helicopter tour. Amazing! And much cheaper if you book it through Expedia. I cannot recommend this enough.
The facilities themselves are fantastic. However, most of the staff are completely uninterested in the customers. They would last 10 minutes working on the mainland. This would have been tolerable had it not been for the shady business practices of the Fairmont. The advertised price is not the REAL price. Customer must provide credit card details for the additional $30 per day "resort tax". Apparently this gets you wifi and snorkeling equipment rental. Hitting up customers at the check-in desk for an additional daily rate, so that they can advertise a lower rate on-line, is about as shady as it gets. I feel bad for anyone on a budget. Had it not been for this one act of appalling conduct I'd have been quite happy but, this kind of business should not be tolerated. Ever!

Great price point for the comps in the area. 4.5-5 stars is about right.
