Great location

Posted Jul 19, 2017
Pros: location, location, location.
Cons: Wifi at a reasonable speed updating facilities ie new carpeting in rooms, repair broken tiles, etc.
Location: it is all right here and with a rental car you can easily visit the entire island in one day.
The facility is old and their wifi is a joke but the location is perfect in the heart of Kona and the staff are mostly helpful. Parking was only $5/day and the town is very walkable. If you are like us and just use your room to change and to sleep then this is the ideal location. Includes a mediocre continental breakfast, pool and spa.

Basic hotel with great location and super service

Posted Jul 18, 2017
Older building undergoing renovations. If you don't need a lot of frills this is a surprisingly clean, friendly and accommodating lodging. The location is central and within easy walking to the beach, shopping, eating and recreational opportunities. The staff was gracious and atmosphere relaxed and laid- back.

Convenient Location

Posted Jul 17, 2017
Pros: Location, AC and pool.
Cons: Modernize rooms, improve the soap and shampoo etc. Bathmats are rusty. How is that possible? Room was dark.
Location: Shop, eat, swim, snorkel.
We only stayed one night prior to a flight to HNL. It's basic and clean. There is only one elevator and it's not central to all rooms. It's in the tourist center; shops and restaurants are everywhere. Breakfast had fruit and carbs, no protein option. Check in and check out was a slow process. Parking is 5$ extra. Pool is well kempt and clean. Staff are friendly. Apparently renewal is underway. That should improve the dated rooms.

Rundown disappoint

Posted Jul 9, 2017
I can appreciate an old property and have no problem, for the most part, staying at one. But Uncle Billy's has cast aside any desire to clean and maintain it's guest's rooms. The smell when walking into our room was overpowering, the first sign of what was coming. The tile flooring and bathroom grout was black, orrigninally white. Layers of dust was literally hanging off everything. Sheets on the beds were terribly pilled and very scratchy and uncomfortable. The sidelight window by our door was missing it's curtain and therefore allowing all the light from the outside wall light to shine into our room all night. Thank goodness we were only staying one night, as after we complained nothing was done. The continental 'breakfast' was more of a 'here's some cereal & cut pineapple' bar. Oh and of course coffee. Like I said, OLD does NOT have to mean dirty. A block from the ocean, for viewing only, does not make staying at Uncle Billy's worth it. I would not recommend this hotel, especially with children.

Cheap Hotel in the heart of Kona

Posted Jul 4, 2017
We just needed a place to lay our heads for the night so we opted for the cheap room at Uncle Billy's. Our hotel room was not ready at 3p.m when we arrived for check-in. They upgraded us for free to the kitchenette which was across the street and close to the water. However, the A/C did not work in our room it was really warm the entire night. Also, the water pressure was extremely low, we could barely flush the toilet. And unfortunately we spotted a few big roaches :(

Location was great, but the room smelled.

Posted Jul 1, 2017
The staff was helpful but the room needed a remodel. The bathroom was tiny with holes in the door and walls. The whole room smelled of mold.
