Wasn't pleased to have to have $50 debited on my credit card in case we used the mini bar! Hopefully it will be refunded? All other stays have debited $1?

'Superior' equals perfunctory

Posted Apr 25, 2016 on Wotif
Cons: Work on service and don't try to pass off mistakes as... well, not mistakes!
Location: Napier is a very nice city and the hotel is well located to take advantage of it.
I booked what was called a 'superior' room on wotif and, while I can't complain about the room itself, it was not superior, but merely adequate and comfortable. ( I can never understand why windows in hotels tend to be dirty on the outside!) What I have a problem with was the service. The staff were always friendly but they were never anything more than that, and at times this masked an air of inefficiency. For example, I like to get up for sunrises, and the look I got from the front-of-house staff was, at best, odd, as if they thought I was crazy for leaving the hotel at 5:30 in the morning. Worse was the breakfast service. There were two options for the French Toast; with bacon and with fresh fruit. I ordered the fresh fruit. What I got was the bacon option. I would have been happy with a quiet apology and an effort to rectify the mistake. Instead I was told that this was the fresh fruit option, despite the presence of bacon and a couple of pieces of fruit - mango - each about the size of a 20 cent coin on the side of the plate, and no cream as stated on the menu. I left it at this as I didn't know what to think. Mysteriously, a few minutes later a bowl of fruit was brought to my table. This fruit, consisting of more mango, grapes and watermelon chunks did not go with the dish in front of me - taste and texture clashed terribly.

Very enjoyable Weekend away

Posted Apr 18, 2016 on Hotels
We had a weekend away and had never been to Napier before. the hotel was easy to find and was in a great location close to town and the beach front. on arrival the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was excellent, clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The restaurant was amazing, every single meal we had there was of a high standard. Couldn't fault the food at all. if there was one small thing that I could pick on, would be although the windows are nice and big with great views they do let in a lot of road noise from the traffic below and the curtains let in a lot of light around the edges. but that is a very small thing compared the great relaxation that is had at this hotel. We will be back.
