next time, I'll pay more for a chain hotel

Check in was ok but not friendly. Several broken items in room, such as recliner chair footrest. It was quiet and wifi worked ok. No lobby coffee or snacks. Again, checkout was ok but no "how was your stay?" Or other customer service comments.

Stay on I-70

Posted Mar 24, 2017
Pros: Not much.
Cons: Working plumbing and phones.
Location: on main street through Hays (Vine St.) pretty busy throughout night. Parking is tight.
We travel regularly through Hayes, but usually stay near I-70. Though we would venture out to 'locally owned' hotels for a change. Big mistake. Very dated, throwback rooms, furniture and appliances. Sink was clogged, and would not drain, tried several times to call front desk with no answer - kept ringing on room phone, but when I went to the clerk, he said that he kept answering. So phone system issues. The most worrisome aspect was the yellow/brown brackish water coming out of the sink and tub. Granted there was a water main break in the area earlier (obvious by the construction barricades in the street) which the motel had no control over, but they did however have control of flushing lines after water repair, notifying guests of water issues, or at the very least being aware of the potential of a boil order and notifying guests of potential health issues introduced with water line breaks, or in our clerks case, being aware of what a 'boil order' was. Quote: "I've never heard of such a thing..." So the issues were resolved by the clerk wiping the grit and sediment out of the sink and tub, running water till it was clear, and proudly declaring that everything "looks good". Oh, and he did attempt to use a plunger on the sink, to no avail, so said that he would notify the maintenance man..... tomorrow. Fortunately there is a Walgreen's nearby where we purchased bottled water to use. Were too tired to look for another room-so just slept there to get it over with.

The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It was easy to get to Gross Memorial Stadium. We were there for the State Wrestling tournament so didn't spend much time in the room but would be willing to book again next year. The lady at the desk was very polite and helpful when we checked in.

Low quality hotel

This hotel is passable if it were priced much lower. As is I can't recommend it.

Fort Hays Inn

All ok. It's an older motel that's seen a lot of use. It's nice to be able to park in front of your room. Furniture, bedding, towels were worn. But was clean enough considering age. I thought the price was a tad high especially since they added a twenty dollar pet charge. Room could use a good scrub and paint. Overall everything was OK.
