Approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the southeast of Helgoland is Bremerhaven, an important regional city where you'll find Zoo at the Sea, Atlanticum and River Weser Dyke Promenade. Be sure not to head back to Helgoland until you've stopped by Bremerhaven's Wilhelm Bauer Submarine Museum and National German Maritime Museum.
Take the time to really understand Schleswig-Holstein by understanding its past. A great place to begin is by visiting the area's historic castles. Spend a day in the sunshine and fresh air and make a tour of Schleswig-Holstein's popular lighthouses and gardens.
