Largely our stay was what we expected - a standard hotel in a good location.
Check in was straight forward and friendly enough.
Our room was large but needed updating. The paintwork was cracking and wallpapered ceilings were starting to peel. We were on the top floor and the water pressure was poor. In addition, the shower hose had split and so the shower was a trickle. As we were only staying 1 night and only discovered the issue having settled into our room we took the decision to take baths instead. We mentioned the shower issue on departure and the response was a passing apology and that the room would be taken out of action until the issue was resolved.
The beds were not particularly comfortable and while clean there was a rip in the bedlinen. The duvet was a non-breathable material meaning it quickly became hot. I usually sleep well but unfortunately spent the night tossing and turning.
The breakfast was excellent, although once seated, we waited over 20 minutes for a waitress to take our hot food order. There were barely any other tables seated so I think we had been forgotten.
The hotels location is excellent, within walking distance of the town and river.
I would stay at the hotel again if I needed to be in the centre of the town but for better comfort and value I would chose a Premier Inn.
