charming guest housePosted Jan 3, 2018
Hall bank was a charming place to stay, full of character located right in the heart of Hexham. We stayed with our 2 boys in a family room which was spacious and comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone.
Great place to stayPosted Sep 29, 2017 on Hotels
I usually stay in branded hotels rather than independents but limited choice in this area. The room was old fashioned compared to a regular chain but it was absolutely in keeping with the style of guest house. The bed was super comfy and I had a fantastic nights sleep. Showers were hot and breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay again. I can imagine it would suit walkers and explorers very well.

Lovely owners and staff. Quiet location only 1 minute from Hexham market place. Cannot fault this guesthouse. Hidden gem.

Mediocre at bestPosted Aug 18, 2017 on Hotels
This place was overpriced. There was no one there to check us in when we arrived at 5:30 in the afternoon. Instead we found a sign to call a number for the code to the door. As foreign tourists, we did not have phones that worked in England. Luckily a coffee shop owner around the corner knew just what to do and helped us even though his shop was closed for the day. Apparently that happens all the time. The one plus was that we were able to do our laundry there. The room itself was nothing special. We had to guess what time breakfast was served since there was no information in the room.

Pros: Absolutely lovely. What a find. Like rural France tucked away in a hidden corner of Hexham. So friendly, peaceful. Very nice comfy room. Views.
Cons: Wasn't able to get the wi-fi working. No problem though, needed to have a break from online!
Location: Hallbank is tucked away in a beautiful position near the centre of Hexham, close to many historical buildings and antiquities. Good places to eat.
Everything was spot-on, from the booking through to the stay itself, breakfast, everything. We arrived early and were made to feel very welcome. There was ample parking. The room was very nice - clean, spacious and comfortable with great views of Hexham's historical past. Lovely breakfast. We only stayed one night, to attend a music event. Wish we could have stayed longer. No hesitation in recommending.

Room nice and large; breakfasts excellent; well positioned for the town but still quiet; few noisy inhabitants one night and few quirks expectant of an older property. Would definitely return to same property though.

Nice quiet guesthouse in central HexhamPosted May 21, 2017
Pros: Central but peaceful location, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast.
Cons: A shelf and a light for all the beds, a temperature control that works, and tissues in the bathroom (there was an empty box, no tissues).
A large room with pleasant outlook (trees), having one double and one single bed. For my 2-night stay I occupied the single, being alone. Very comfortable, but it had no bedside table or shelf and no light or adjacent light switch: rather annoying having to get out of bed to switch the main light off. Room was rather too hot and radiator control seemed to have no effect, so I slept with the window wide open. A very pleasant and quiet place - well, the stairs creak, but it's an old building. The only sour note: I had paid in full in advance with Paypal but the duty staff didn't know that on the morning I left and asked for my credit card details - no way - so I had to reopen my case to find the Expedia printout and wait for it to be confirmed. This was embarrassing and held me up when I was in a hurry to meet friends. I think staff ought to know who has paid. That said, I would probably stay there again as it's an interesting old house tucked away from traffic but right in the middle of town.
