We arrived and were given a hotel room. When my family and I went up to the room, we found someone's clothes and shoes scattered around the room. So, we went back down to the front desk and described what we saw. The clerk was surprised and assigned us another room. We went up again, and, AGAIN, we found clothes, etc. strewn across the room. Back down at the front desk, we described what we found (AGAIN), and got a third room assigned. The clerk went upstairs with me to check the room which was (finally) a vacant room. We then spent the rest of the weekend wondering if the hotel had squatters or a buggy room assignment system which would allow some stranger into our room.
When I asked the daytime clerk about the situation, it was news to her. She checked the system and found supporting evidence for my tale. She apologized for our inconvenience and offered to try to make it up to us. However, what was promised did not happen.
I will be avoiding this hotel in the future. I will be avoiding the Holiday Inn chain for a while. They screwed up when we got there and trying to make it up to us.
