Badly managed placePosted May 18, 2014
Location: Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National park is great
This hotel is badly managed in almost every aspect. Towels seems washed but have color of the dirt, no soap/shampoo, etc.... no coffee supply. We booked no smoking room, but were given room with heavy smell of stale smoke. Had to search and search till found really non-smoking one. Breakfast which suppose to be included was not offered, instead note on the office door informed about late office opening and no breakfast. It was the same note 2 mornings in a row and seems to be a trend. We choose to cut our stay one day short and were eligible for refund. Manager claimed that he can't do it, just an owner could who was absent of course. We end up leaving without refund. No wonder place was almost empty. There plenty of inexpensive hotels on the same strip, so I'd advise to stay away from Gateway inn.

OK, if you're getting in late and leaving earlyPosted Sep 8, 2013
Pros: Cheap and easy to get to.
Cons: Cleanliness in the rooms needs improvement. I don't think they wash the bedspreads and pillows often enough. Clarity- they should have the smaoking ar
OK, if you're getting in late and leaving early, as we were. The sheets and pillows smelled funny, so we used our own pillows. We were given what the friendly but disorganized innkeeper said was a smoking room, but we had to call the desk back and ask because the room had a no smoking sign on the door. He said, "It's fine, easier for me, no problem" Still, it was safe and secure, and easy to get to from the highway.

Clean, comfortable, pleasant owner.Posted Nov 28, 2011
Location: Holbrook is a small place but has enough to interest you for a couple of nights. Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Park plus the usual gift shops and you are staying on the historic Route 66.
We had a one night stay over Thanksgiving 2011. Hotel is easy to find with plenty of parking. The rooms are a decent size though the shower room is small. All was clean and well laid out, good services and an acceptable breakfast. The owner is Polish and is very proud of his hotel. Dog friendly so be careful if you have allergies. No restaurant so try the Butterfield Stagecoach Co Steakhouse in town - amazing food and lovely staff too.

A pleasent surprise will be backPosted May 31, 2011
When I arrived I was greeted by the owner which was very friendly and helpful. The internet didn't work on my computer ( old laptop ) so he offered his and got things taken care of. The room was alittle dated but neat as a pin and the air worked great. Felt very safe and comfortable in the room. Has a micro wave and frig with a coffee maker. The breakfast was basic but nice and inviting. Will be back without a doubt. Oh the price was good for my budget.

Painted desertPosted Apr 1, 2011
We wanted to go to the painted desert. It would have been a 4 hour drive back to our hotel in Phoenix. We decided to just get a cheap hotel with the basics. thebeds were comfortable. room was clean. It is a little older but that was fine. I was not impressed with the cold breakfast. Not a lot of selection. but It was exactly what we needed a clean, safe place to stay for 1 night.

Motel showed some wear but the staff more than made up for it with great service!Posted Oct 9, 2010
Great staff, owner is a friendly down to earth man, who is committed to make the guests happy. Motel was clean, but it did show a little wear. Bed and linen were more than acceptable. More that enough cable channels. Continental breakfast was minimal but it did get me started. I like the place and the owner.

Great room was provided at low cost. Microwave & frig even w/o asking for them. Large room even though we were getting a special rate.
