Nice hotel, but under construction during our stay

Posted Nov 7, 2017
Whilst we enjoyed our stay at Ovolo Hotel, there were a few things that put us off a bit. The room are nice and the bed very comfortable, but it was a bit dusty and not as clean as I would have liked. It's a pricy hotel, over £85 a night, so I expect it to be to at a high standard. Mainly though, the hotel is under construction until December, which meant that the restaurants were closed and there was a "temporary" lobby that didn't look so great. It didn't really have a luxury feel to it, but the decoration is fun and there are nice touches like the pop music in the elevators and the screens playing old clips for the 90s. The staff is very nice and helpful. We had a nice stay, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it - not while it's under construction.

Teeny Tiny Itty Bitty

While the staff was overwhelmingly fabulous, the room was not! When I booked, I booked the Queen room. We were told at check in that we had been given a free upgrade. WE HAD NOT! The room was little more than a shoe box. (7 steps by 7 steps of some really small feet) The bed was NOT a queen. In fact, I am only 5ft 2in and I could touch both sides of the bed at the same time with ease. There was no storage to speak of. There was barely enough room to walk. My husband and I had to maneuver around one another (one sit on the bed so that the other could pass by) just to get into the bathroom. I understand that this hotel will be undergoing renovations over the next year. I certainly hope they take into consideration that a tiny room doesn't work for double occupancy. It would have been fine for a single, but double was terrible. On our return trip to Hong Kong, I will be sure to book at a different hotel. I couldn't imagine having to pay for 3 rooms just so the kids would be able to be comfortable.

Nice hotel, some areas are a little tired e.g. room could do with a repaint. Great views of Aberdeen Harbour. The hotel is a small distance from downtown Hong Kong, but the public transport system is fabulous and bus stops are very close to the hotel. Excellent place to stay if you want to see how the locals live. Also many small restaurants, that the locals frequent, are close by. These provide good value authentic Chinese cuisine. Hotel staff very helpful, and the free minibar is a nice addition.

Good value for what it was.

Room smelled a bit musty and mattress was too hard for my liking but understand that renovations will be underway soon. Goodie bag was a nice touch. Excellent transport links to Central and Kowloon.

Pleasant hotel

Friendly staff and functional room. Sadly, I was placed on a floor with Mandarin speaking travelers who were constantly noisy and speaking in the corridor and banging their door when they visit their family in the next room.
