Surprised by all of the positive reviews

Posted Oct 17, 2015
Pros: Location, friendly staff, free parking and wifi
Cons: Decor, room smell, found pillows uncomfortable
Location: Texas Medical Center, Sports stadiums, Museum District, Galleria mall, lots of places to eat, Rice Village
I had business in the TMC for a few day and ended up spending three nights at the Comfort Suites, mostly because of the positive reviews. To start with the positives, the staff was very helpful and professional and the location is very convenient for anyone visiting the area. The TMC is a couple minutes away, you can practically walk to NRG stadium, and it's only a few minutes more to the excellent Museum district, Rice University, and not too far to the Galleria for some shopping. The negatives, on the other hand: the decor is old and in serious need of updating. The pool is minuscule and probably only useful for kids. Worst of all, my room had a very obnoxious musty odor, probably due to carpets that looked like they'd been there since the 80's. When I brought it up to the front desk they were apologetic and able to get me a new room, which turned out to smell too but it wasn't as bad so I lived with it. As my wife could attest, I do not have the most sensitive nose either, If they can get that smell out of the rooms, on the other hand, it wouldn't be a bad place to stay even if it's a bit no-frills even for a business class hotel. .

Very happy with the hotel. We will stay there again next week for our appointment at MDA. I recommend this hotel.
