Good location but not up to standard.Posted Jan 7, 2018
Cons: Cleanliness of room. Curtains, chairs, lamps need deep cleaning.
Location: Shopping, food.
The hotel is in an excellent location but the cleanliness of the rooms is pretty disappointing to the Sofitel standards.

Excellent location - easy access to transport. Room well appointed and clean. Great variety for breakfast. Hotel staff were very helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
Fine, but not great.Posted Oct 19, 2017 on Hotels
As other travelers have noted, the location of the Sofitel right on the big glitzy pedestrian shopping street Nanjing Road (think: Times Square) is good and centrally located for first trip sightseeing. The price per night is good. The metro entrance is a quick 3 minute walk away. The Bund is a pleasant 20 minute walk away. I'm here on a second business trip. The hotel for my purpose leaves something to be desired. It is certainly not 'luxury' by any stretch at 4 stars. Staff was perfunctory, but not friendly or helpful by any means. I waited 15 minutes in the bar to get anyone's attention, another 5 to get a menu, and another 20 to get anyone's attention for the check. For a French hotel chain, the restaurant's food is fairly below average. The breakfast buffet is meh compared to what other hotels offer. Rooms were less than clean--kept finding hair everywhere (not mine). My colleagues reported weird cooking odors in their rooms. The rock hard beds, even with a the thin feather bed on top, could not be made super comfortable.

Great hotel; great location.Posted Oct 2, 2017
Pros: Everything! The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was efficient and friendly.
Location: Shopping, restaurants, and tourist sites. If you stay here explore the nearby neighborhoods with the small shops and restaurants.
This was my third trip to Shanghai but my first as a tourist. The proximity to the Bund, Jade Buddha Temple, and Jewish Refugee Museum was perfect for us. The nearby restaurants and shops - the small ones on the side streets not the big ones on Nanjing Road - were fun to explore.

Sofitel excellencePosted Sep 19, 2017 on CheapTickets
Pros: The breakfasts at the Sofitel are always fantastic. Absolutely delicious and the lattes are complimentary. The choice is abundant and the room itself
Cons: rooms are beautiful but not as nice as the Sofitel Beijing Centre
Location: Smack downtown near the Bund. The absolute best location.
Sofitel Hyland is the best hotel to be where you want to be in Shanghai. Almost as good as the one in Beijing centre. The hotel is very pleasant, the staff very helpful and able to speak Chinese, Shanghainese, English and sometimes French. Rooms are up to the Sofitel standard, sumptuous with a wonderful view regardless of the direction they are overlooking. The restaurants are absolutely fantastic and far superior to the other chains such as hilton changri-la, sheraton, etc.
