Perhaps the best hotel at Ilha Grande. Located away from Abrao. 5 min by hotel boat taxi, cost 20 BRL (4 USD) during the day hours and 40 BRL (8 USD) when it is dark, i.e. after 6pm. Walking is impossible for much of the time as the pathway is frequently flooded. Make sure you call/send whatsapp message to the reception in advance about your trips there and back. There is normally one trip every hour. The boat is quite small and at the beginning hard to identify but after a while you get used to it. Location away from Abrao is good for some if one needs a quiet secure place and a disadvantage if you need some more life around but then again using the boat helps in getting a good balance of everything. The property itself is very good, comfortable, the views are stunning. The staff members are very helpful. Regarding Ilha Grande I had a tour around some beaches, which was not bad. However if you wish to visit the best place then forget other beaches and go Lopes Mendes. Getting there is a quest but worth it: you first go by water taxi to Pouso beach (located in inner lagoon, no big waves) and then walk 20 min through the forest. One could walk all the way from Abrao but that is then few hours. The beach closer to sunset is really stunning. Overall, great experience at Ilha Grande. Thanks a lot.

We were looking forward to our stay at Asalem. I had planned this trip for months and had great expectations for this property. The place looked amazing on pictures, the location was perfect. On site we arrived late afternoon, the hostess was great and dinner was ok. The following day breakfast service was great. However our rooms did not look like in the pictures, the rooms were old, with chipped wood and cracked slabs. The worst was the wholes in the sheets and the bedding and towels were in poor shape and even with mold. The bathrooms were old and had a bad smell but most of all they were not clean. My daughter and I used our sandals to shower as we did not want to step on the shower bare foot. The floor of the rooms, the outlets, curtains, doors were all in bad shape and in urgent need of repair. My family was very disappointed and even though we had originally planned to extend our stay, we decided one night there had been enough. I am sure their newer rooms are better and that everything is great there but the pictures are not accurate to the current state, the property should show current pictures of the older units so that guests know what they are accepting when booking. Still this does not make up for the lack in higiene.

The entire staff from the front desk, to the boat captains from our transfer from Rio de Janeiro to the drivers Asalem provided gifted us impeccable service. We couldn’t have chosen a better destination for our honeymoon. I will reserve any more compliments, because I want Asalem to maintain it’s peaceful atmosphere. Obrigado

We spent 4 nights at Asalem. We enjoyed our time very much. We stayed at the chalet which was spacious and has amazing views of the bay. The hotel serves the best caipirinhas in town and the food they serve is also very good. There are lots of steps to take each day so you have to be fit enough to climb those. A little boat brings you to the village and back. It’s a very special place we can highly recommend.

Staff was very nice. Free boat pickup/dropoff from pier. Large room with air conditioning and wifi (when it works). Great authentic breakfast (included) and delicious dinner. Staff was very nice. Hotel is a bit remote but very beautiful and pretty easy to get around, especially if youre willing to pay rs$15 for boat transfer to main part of island.

This place was a great value find. Nathalia is what makes this place a home from home. She was always happy and super helpful. So was the other lady who i think was her sister maybe. The breakfast view was great and its just so peaceful. The taxi service from the main port to hotel was easy to navigate with whatsapp and not to expensive. The happy hour was great and we tasted a lot of caipirihnas in Brazil but they did the best. The rooms are a bit basic but it's a remote island so expect more rustic besides we didn't spend much time in the room. But it's very eco which is a good thing.

Asalem had great views and a decent breakfast spread. The manager, Natalia, was wonderful and made us feel very comfortable and welcome. However, there are not many amenities here. The rooms had no hair dryer or television. The dock area, which is the only swimming area) had only 2 floaties so unless you're proficient at floating in deep water, you have to wait. Also be aware that this location is not walkable to the town, and you need to pay the ferry each time you take it - only checkin/out is free. This property would not be suitable for those with small children either - there are a lot of areas that are not safely enclosed that a small child/toddler could easily fall (10 feet), including the rooms (bed is in the loft area, which is only protected by a single rope) and the stairs to the rooms (again, only a rope handrail in most areas). You need to place your dinner orders by the afternoon if you are dining at the hotel so you can't decide too late. But the drinks/food are good.

It's located a boat ride away from the main village - it's quiet and peaceful, the staff is lovely and so very helpful. Shout out to Natalia for making our stay so memorable and the highlight of our trip.

Room needs upgrade. Doors don't shut well and windows need new screen as they have many holes in them allowing insects to come in. We did notice that some of the rooms seem to be upgraded. Also, there's no way to walk to the village. The access is only by boat so you have to plan ahead.

beautiful place.
Very friendly and helpful staff, some of the most beautiful views of Ilha Grande. It’s a good 15/20 min walk to the main village but depending on your mobility could be hard to access by foot however the hotel offers a regular taxi boat over. It’s a lovely little place that is so chilled and relaxing and the perfect place to sit outside your room with a caipirinha and look at the most stunning scenery. rooms are a little basic but you’re on a fairly secluded island and it does have everything you need!

Amazing and Unique Property
We stay 5 Nights in Asalem with our Baby, This unique and beutifull Property is one of the highlight of our trip in Brazil. Amazing view from our Balcony, Great and Friendly staff, Daily breakfest and great Dinner with perfect Atmosphere infront of the ocean. We definitely recommend to come here and waiting for our next time to come back. 5 Stars :)

No value for your $$ if you stay at asalem propert
The hotel has great view and friendly staff and the room was nice size. But here are the items that drops the rating for this hotel: Only 8 rooms, to get to our room we had to climb exectly 44 steps at multi levels. We had no hot water the first night due to a storm and lack of backup system. The water was black and brown manager explain due to storm. The hotel is secluded and to get to town you must take a water taxi the hotel charges for each person $5 usa dollar this info is not available when you book at hotel.com. Internet not reliable sparotic outages. No water for drinking in room has to be purchased while evry hotel provides. At over $200+ per night this hotel is no value for your $$ you will be disappointed or reduce the rate. I have communicated my frustration to shift manager a woman I forgot the name she could care less and ignored my comments. To get to a beach you need to walk on narrow path (hotel down not tell you they claim 20 minutes) if you are with kids or mature person it takes over 40 minutes on a sleepers trail. Bugs in room is common.

Thanks for your review! Most of the photos we have in the page shows we are on a hillside, so we recommend calling the property before making the reservation to remedy all possible doubts. Due to very strong rain never seen at this time of year we had unusual problems with the color of the water indeed as well as internet unstable connection which happened in many establishments, but it goes from each person to understand we are in a island and that we are lacking of some resources and because of that we do our best to solve all issues in the best possible way. We noticed the information about the distance of main pier and water taxi were not added on the page and this was an error. We apologize and already requested to have this information added. We are not aware of bottled free water in every hotel, at least not in Abraão or Rio or Brasil. We believe to come to a rain forest island, tourists need to be well informed about the topography of the site to be visited and accept the wild particularities.

Nice remote spot.
This place is off the beaten path. Which is both really cool or could be seen as bad. I liked it. We took boats and swam to beaches but didn't have to stay in the town which is a little more youthful and party. The staff is awesome! Like they couldn't be better. There are bugs but it's in the jungle so you can't really avoid that. Just make sure you have bug repellent.

Island getaway
Perfect nestled on the sunset bay side of the island. The staff made this place one to remember. Two for one drinks specials while they cook your dinner to order and a view out of a travel book.

Special place for winding down
4 nights at end of family holiday. Outstanding. Superb service from a really nice team for whom nothing was too much. Simple and straightforward rather than pampered luxury. Sure there are limitations: the whole point is it's an island with minimal infrastructure, so in hard drought when the well/spring dries up the tap water gets salty (not drinking water anyway). Also, things work at Brazilian pace, so tomorrow can mean the day after, but we found everything to be perfect for relaxing and they have a wonderful intimate environment. We'd go back in a heartbeat. Great food, great caipirinhas and great smiles. The owner is a talented photographer with a great sensitivity for Brazilian culture too. Fascinating to listen to. This is a place to read a book and have a drink whilst listening to parots overhead and glancing up at forested mountains and small boats on a calm blue bay. Worth it. Variety of power sockets including US and European 2 pin, US 3 pin but not the modern Brazilian 3 pin. Internet sufficient for email but not media.

Amazing hotel with great views. The staff was very helpful! The room we booked did not look at all like the pictures, because it was a standard room not an eco suite like pictured, but was a good stay overall.

Rustic but basic hotel - lovely location
The hotel was far more basic than we expected - rooms very drab and poorly furnished. Location was lovely but few facilites for sunbathing and relaxing. No real communal sitting room for use when weather is poor. The dinner was excellent and views from dining area over the bay were good. We had very bad rain and the roof in our bedroom leaked !!

Die Unterkunft ist sehr in die Jahre gekommen und entspricht nicht mehr den Bildern. Wir hatten nicht nur braunes Wasser, leider auch zu keinem Zeitpunkt richtig warmes / heißes Wasser. Es wird für alles eine extra Gebühr berechnet. Beispielsweise kann kann man keinen Schirm leihen, nur kaufen. Um in die Stadt zu kommen muss man das Boot für 4€ pro Person pro Strecke nehmen. Wir würden trotz der Aussicht nicht mehr hierher kommen.

Honteux !!! Hormis la vue qui est absolument magnifique, cet hôtel est une vrai arnaque. On parle ici de chambres à 200€ la nuit , donc on peut s’attendre à un minimum de prestations. Il n’en n’est rien !!!!. Les chambres basiques sont à fuir . Vieux , vétuste , usées ,rafistolées,odeur de moisie, eau chaude aléatoire . Du coup c’est vraiment trop cher!!!pour la prestation. De plus il faut savoir que l’on ne peut pas rejoindre le village à pieds ,sauf à marée basse.Donc prévoir 40rs par personne pour l’aller retour en bateau , qui est plutôt une épave flottante !!. Et le petit plus pour la fin: ils ont voulus nous facturer l’utilisation du parapluie mis à disposition dans la chambre….. Le soir , il n’y a plus personne du staff , il vaut donc mieux ne pas avoir un problème vu l’isolement de l’hôtel. Bref ilha grande oui, Asalem non et non!!

A estadia foi excelente. O atendimento por parte de todo o pessoal da pousada excelente a Natália, a Karen, a Aline, todo o pessoal e nem falar do Ezequias, nota 20, muito atencioso e educado. a única coisa a ressalvar, foi a questão da acessibilidade, por possuir muitas escadas com degraus irregulares e alguns trechos sem corre maos. Essa circunstancia poderia ser mais apontado melhor neste site. A comida do cardápio do restaurante, também muito boa. Com certeza voltaremos

A vista do hotel é incrível e os funcionários são extremamente educados e atenciosos. Um dos lugares onde os funcionários foram mais atenciosos e educados de todos os locais que já fiquei. Foi permitido late check out sem custo extra. Porém a crítica que tenho a fazer é em relação ao custo-benefício. É um local com uma diária muito cara para o que oferece. Para ir para a vila de Abraao era cobrado 15 reais por pessoa por trajeto (com exceção de check in e check out)... pelo preço da diária achei meio “abusiva” essa cobrança. Pelo preço da diária também esperava um quarto mais confortável (não tinha nem tv), com roupas de cama e banho melhores.
