Upgraded and still not as expected

I realize that airport hotels are not always the most luxurious so when I find a four-star, I book there. There were other hotels in the area with only a 3 star rating so I opted for this hotel whose was slightly higher. The staff obviously felt under appreciated and overworked. The manager sat in the lobby talking on his cell phone as problems grew around him not deeming it necessary to provide assistance. I received an upgrade at the check-in desk when problems arose. When I reached the suite, I was disappointed to realize what the upgrade was. The carpets, towels and shower/tub were dirty. The towels also had holes in them. The lights were burned out and the coffee station had no coffee. There were no Kleenex in the box and the rack in the closet had torn from the wall. I opted not to call the staff as again they seemed overworked and I was only spending the night. Had this hotel originally been listed as a three star hotel and an upgrade not been given, I would've ranked it a three star instead of a 2. When you offer an upgrade, you expect it to be better than the rest of the rooms. I will say the sheets were clean but I was most surprised that it was a Wyndham Hotel chain.
