BUYER BEWARE - Private club with unusual rules
Despite not being spelled out anywhere on the Expedia profile of this hotel, the Columbia Club is a private club that exercises some unusual policies. First and foremost - THEY WILL CONFISCATE ANY OUTSIDE FOOD AND DRINK YOU TRY TO BRING UP TO YOUR ROOM. Thats right, they confiscated my twelve-pack of Sierra Nevada like I was a college kid in a dorm (despite the fact that Im well over the legal age.) They even confiscated my Starbucks coffee. Complain about it? Theyll immediately call security who will threaten to throw you out. Theyre also quite open to admitting that this is to protect the business of the (quite overpriced) bar and restaurant on-site.The place is well-kept, but it really shouldnt have a hotel attached, because it is, first and foremost, a posh private club for wealthy Indianapolis residents. Also, the WiFi never works, so plan on burning through your mobile plan as you tether it to your laptop.None of this would be problematic if it were simply mentioned on the Expedia profile of this hotel.

Location is great
The stay was fine overall. No reason to not choose Columbia Club. Staff was helpful. Since most people look for whats wrong with it comments, the water was cold in the shower, and it took a while to fix it (the next day), and by fix it, I mean that it was lukewarm for the next couple of days. Staff member tried to explain it away as if its normal and that no one wants it too hot. But it literally was never near hot. Only lukewarm at best. I got the feeling from a couple of people that it is pretty stressful, and I can imagine. Im just a regular guy, but I witnessed a lot of elites in and out, so perhaps a lot of other people are expecting more out of the staff than I would be. I thought it was a great location at a reasonable rate, and I will go back as long as the rates are comparable.

Great location, great value.
Close to everything in Indianapolis, the Columbia Club is a good choice for the value concsious traveller. My room was a bit smaller than Im used to, and the bathroom sink had very little room for me to lay out the things I use everyday. The bathtub plug did not function, which was no problem for me, but something like this should be attended to promptly. Some of my colleagues experienced cold showers, but mine were very hot. Loved the lobby and bar area. I didnt use the pool but others were complimentary. Valet staff were great. I would go back again.

Historic Beauty for Those With Discerning Taste
I cant write enough about the experience of The Columbia Club from the moment you walk in. Let me say up front, if youre looking for something similar to your last Holiday Inn Express or Marriott, please move on. This hotel is truly for those who value the perfect combination of history and class. This was my first visit and I was amused at some of the reviews I read. Upon check in I was not asked to sign anything saying I couldnt bring in my own food although the thought didnt occur to me. I was travelling on business, not to have a party in my hotel room. I am unfamiliar with Indianapolis and the front desk staff gave me ideas for a close-by dinner, but then invited me to enjoy dinner at their own restaurant. Of course, I decided to give it a try and thoroughly enjoyed my evening. I had 2 glasses of wine, fresh bread, Ceasar salad and a wonderful salmon and asparagus dinner - all for just $67. The ambiance and attention from the wait staff was incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The rooms are smaller than most hotel rooms, true. This hotel was built approximately 100 years ago and was suitable for its time. I found the rooms quaint, clean and completely comfortable. In the morning I ordered room service and literally got a complete breakfast for $13 delivered right on time and it was impeccable. Hats off to the chef who poached my eggs to perfection. Needless to say, I will be staying here again in the future. It was wonderful.
