The bathroom was not very clean and the air conditioning didn't work. The hotel staff said they would look at it, but said they didn't have another room available when we asked and didn't offer any kind of compensation for it being rather warm in the room.

Great place to stay in old hometown!

Pros: Location
Cons: Little modernization, update. Still, it was comfortable and clean.
Location: Des Moines river flows through town, swinging bridge, old trestle, journey out to Ft Defiance and drive through wooded area, have picnics, camping.
Comfortable and close to areas we wanted to visit, not far from Iowa Great Lakes. Yes, you can come "home!" Staff was friendly, clean rooms, good parking.

very clean rooms,friendly staff & good breakfast with waffles , biscuits & gravy,cereal etc. We stay here every year for the American Victory Rally in Spirit Lake & lake okoboji.& have never been disappointed

The hot tub was not working when we were there, but other than that everything was great. Nice and helpful staff would definitely stay again

Nice hotel

It was a nice clean hotel with friendly staff. My only complaint was that after paying for the room thru Expedia I was charged another $87 charge at the hotel for incidentals. They said it would come off in a couple of days but being charged almost double for a hotel room at the time of check-in and not be told in advance doesn't seem right. I used Expedia twice on this vacation and the other hotel only charge me $20 for incidentals and that charge came off the very next day.

Your Credit Card was only scanned for incidentals. It was never charged by the hotel. When a debit card is used, the Credit Card companies put an authorization hold on your card, which should fall off after a few day. If it hasn't yet been taken care of, you need to contact your Credit Card company and ask them to remove the authorization hold. We apologize for the confusion. Thank you for staying with us.

Very Nice Hotel great place to stay

Cons: AC
Room was very nice! The Bathroom was Large and Spacious. I wish the AC in the Room Could have been cooler. I like to sleep in the cold.

Nice hotel

Pros: It was a quiet room. You didn't hear people in other rooms.
The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I think this hotel should be rated higher than 2.
