Charming old-fashioned hotel but with a few issuesPosted Oct 26, 2017 on Hotels
Charming hotel, full of lovely furnishings/art etc. A great antidote to the large chains. My room was VERY small, in the eves on the top floor, and there was little space for working, but that was compensated for by nice touches, such as a bathrobe, lovely Ren toiletries etc.. Staff were very polite and helpful. Biggest downsides are no lift - so 3 flights of stairs with heavy briefcase - not very soundproof - I heard several loud discussions in the corridor outside my room, and plumbing noises from others' rooms - and no restaurant, so breakfast is in your room. However, none of that was enough to put me off returning.

Enjoyed the charm of the hotel. The hotel has a bit of history which is interesting. It is very tidy and well maintained. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Good location to some places to eat and a tube station.

Beware of the Mary Lane roomPosted Oct 4, 2017 on Hotels
A distinctive hotel with remarkable decor, furniture and ambience. It's almost like stepping back in time. I stayed in the Mary Lane room which is on the top floor. I had paid for a Club Double but as the room was very cramped I feel I was allocated the basic double. The bed was very comfortable. But as I am over 6 foot I was not impressed with having to negotiate walking around the bed very carefully and avoid hitting one of the beams on the lower part of the ceiling near the bed. Also, to access the television, desk and fridge it was necessary to perform various contortions. If there had been two people staying in the room it would have been an incredibly uncomfortable experience. The customer service standard was very attentive and polite with the exception of one lady who was at the reception desk when I checked out. The two Eastern European lady were excellent but this individual seemed a little disconcerted that she had been asked to move so her colleague could use the computer to check me out. I will not describe her as I'm sure the management know who I am describing - her chippy and unengaging manner were out of place in a hotel that places such an emphasis on being polite and respectful. I do urge you to stay at this remarkable hotel but be aware of the Mary Lane room with it's highly idiosyncratic layout.
Lovely hotelPosted Oct 3, 2017 on Hotels
I love this quirky, old fashioned hotel. The reception staff are delightful and friendly. Unusually there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room but reception are happy to arrange for a tray to be delivered to your room with fresh rathe than UHT milk andeven boil the kettle beforehand. Oh yes, it also had a flowering plant on the tray. The freestanding bath is a treat. In some rooms there is noise from passers-by, so earplugs recommended if you want you open the windows, but otherwise I can find nothing to criticise at all.

Beautiful hotel that I've always wanted to stay inPosted Sep 12, 2017
This is a lovely, refined, character-filled retreat right in the heart of London. Very helpful and pleasant staff and tastefully decorated. Take your breakfast in the Library, the Conservatory, the Courtyard or in your sumptuous room. Expensive but worth every penny.

A very British style hotel in a interesting areaPosted Aug 28, 2017
I was looking for a traditional British looking Hotel cosy and nostalgique in a interesting area not far from the center. Somewhere that we can feel in London with a pub / restaurant / cafe nearby surrounded by Londoners not tourists like us! The Rookery offered it all with beauty and gentle manners ! A dream came true! Absolutely unforgettable!
