We lucked out when we checked in this beautiful villa. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. The breakfast had a lot of variety. Deniz, the host was incredible. He went above and beyond with his hospitality - recommending all the must sees on the map to personally showing us around to the Princes Islands, evenings spent playing backgammon and learning all about Turkish culture. We were absolutely gutted that we didn't spend more time at the place. I would go back to Istanbul just to spend time with Deniz, the host.

Great Location and a lovely host
We chose this place due to location for old town which is excellent. It is walking distance from all the major attractions in old istanbul and we did not need to use a taxi once. It is a traditional house converted into a hotel and so it is comfortable, quiet and clean. Deniz the owner was a pleasure to meet. He is very helpful, polite and full of knowedge with regards attractions and restaraunts etc. Breakfast is basic but everything you need to get your day started. The AC kept the room cool which was bery useful in mid August. The rooms are traditional and clean as opposed to modern and lush but they are large and very accomodating. If wtaying in istanbul for a few days and need a good location for the old town I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Great stay
As soon as i arrived Dennis the manager welcomed me in a friendly manner , upgraded my room and advised me about istanbul . The rooms are decorated in a "shabby chic" style with interesting antique pieces . Room was lovely clean and quiet with a lovely comfortable 4 poster bed . Miss Tanya the Breakfast lady was very friendly and helpful . I liked it so much i stayed an extra night ! Thank you Dennis and Miss Tanya !

Everything was up to Par for me.. Room, Staff, attraction info, Location and breakfast.. Had a late flight and was allowed to check out late.. Very good people, very quiet rooms.

Bad breakfast, Bad Wi-Fi, no AC in one room of suite, Manager agreed on price of airport transfer and then demanded more. Manager demanded money for Dinner on arrival date even though it was included in our deal.

Great location, close to many sights
It is a small but great place, very close to the main sights. The breakfast was good and the staff super friendly (not much English but it was not problem at all). The only inconvenient we had was during the check-in, there was nobody at the property. The staff of the hotel in front opened the door and room for us, but it was frightening at the beginning until we started asking around and were helped. I need to clarify that we arrived late (fly delayed), by 11pm and we didn't notify the hotel about that. I highly recommend this great hotel, we will definitely go back if we return to Istanbul.

In fact, I booked in this place because of the good comments that I read also because of the beautiful pictures of the room in the site, but when we reached the place at noon they took us to another building which as they said belongs to the same hotel but we sow that this is another hotel with another titel and lowest value and they let us wait in the reception for more than one hour because they have not any idea of our reservation. We realized that they cheat us, but we couldnot do any thing because I paied the money when I booked and there is no way to returne the mony back then we stayed for 3 days then we changed the hotel to another one close to it with better price and better services.

Great value in Sultanahmet
Great place. Perfect location. Nice and helpful owners. A top value in Sultanahmet. We stayed here 3 nights. Large room, one of just 4. Good breakfast includes a freshly made cheese omelette if desired. Just a few hundred meters from the Blue Mosque, dozens of restaurants and shops. Recommended.

Cozy room out of the way by the Blue Mosque. Walking and Metro is a must. Buy an Istanbul metro card. If you want night life this is not the area. Quiet at night. Not many English channels on TV.

Clean, spacious, wonderful staff, superb breakfast
Having stayed in other guest houses in Istanbul, this guest house stood out in many ways. It did not feel like a hotel, but more of a home-stay. Upon arrival, the host took extra time to welcome us and gave us a list of things to see and places to eat. Our room was very spacious, clean, and elegantly decorated with antique pieces of furniture. The foam mattress bed was very comfortable and provides great sleep. The bathtub/jacuzzi was a bonus. It also includes a full-blown Turkish breakfast. The main host and the night host spoke both English and Russian. If we return to the historic section of Istanbul, this will be at the top of list of places to stay.

The location was fantastic, 5mins walk to blue mosque! The room was ornately decorated with a huge bed! All usual services and nice hotel staff - would recommend!

More expensive than advertised. Would not take credit card for second room and would only take cash even though the site says they take credit cards. There was no bulb in the fixture over the bathroom sink making it difficult to see when using the mirror. The shower was in a bathtub that leaked water all over the floor each time it was used requiring a towel be left on the floor to sop up the water. Other than that... the room was big and spacious and comfortable and it was a good location. The breakfast was sparse at best, a 6" omellette for 4 of us with toast already made on the table along with a jam of some type of fruit, some feta and another non-descript cheese, and a couple of slices of some type of lunch meat - substandard to the other three hotels we used in Istanbul.

My wife, two adult children and I stayed in a single room. There was a quen size be and a pull out. The single bed was very nice. The pull out was not too omfortable but i have had much worse. The room was large with very nice furnishings. Nothing fancy but you felt as if you were in someone's home. We walked to the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, and all the other sites. It it a VERY steep walk from the hotel and not for those in poor health or poor condition. The hotel staff was wonderful and helpful. The bath was very clean, plenty of hot water and pressure. The breakfast was very simple but tasty and all we needed. I would have no reservations about staying here again. We never felt our safety was compromised.

Pros: Nice decor in the room. Beds were comfortable. Quite location. Hotel has tickets to most attractions. Cons: Located at the bottom of a steep hill although only 15 mins walk to the sites. Breakfast was very bare. Bathroom had a faint sewer smell. Customer service needs to be improved.

Charming 4 Rm Guest House close to historic sites
Charming romantic accomodations. Very accomodating for late breakfasts which are included with the room. Great location within walking distance to most historic sites. The only drawback was that the property sits close to other housing behind it. Occupants of that housing directly behind our room were up until 2 or 3 am talking in loud voices at least 2 nights of my stay. In addition, their window is exactly opposite the window in this room, so you could see when the light went on and off and see people's shadows on the curtain of my room.

Great Location and Service
The Hotel is small but has a superb location- it is within walking distance of most places you will want to see - Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace,Basillica Cisterna ,Grand Bazaar and Arasta Bazaar ( all these are must-dos in Istanbul). Deniz the owner is a wealth of information about things to do in Turkey and despite some confusion about our arrival dates ( not sure why) he managed the situation quite well. The Manager, Azamat ( who is studying to be a doctor) was very friendly and helpful and despite an early departure managed to serve us breakfast in our room ( thanks Azamat, much appreciated). The cleanliness in the hotel was average and the toilets are in desperate need of an upgrade - everything works but needs improvement. We were a family of 4 , 2 kids aged 9 and 6 and the hotel was comfortable- it allowed us time to enjoy Istanbul without having to worry about the traffic and there were lots of restaurants around - must go to "Sokullu" and have their Testi Kebab - you will need reservations but the service and food was great.

The suite, staff and location were absolutely amazing. We were able to visit every 'attraction' with ease and the owner/manager proved very knowledgeable of the city and went out of his way to set up any type of tour we'd like, explaining the perks and disadvantages. My only concern was that when we returned to our suite the second day the AC had been shut off by house cleaning and it happened to be the hottest day in Istanbul of the summer, but accidents happen. My family (two kids aged 9 months and 3 years) enjoyed our stay and would return if we happened to find ourselves in Istanbul.

Best Hotel in Turkey
My girlfriend and I spent three nights at this hotel while visiting Turkey. The owners were incredibly nice. Even though we slept in the first day, they keep our breakfast for us until almost noon when we got up (and the breakfast was great!). The location is perfect -- it is close to all of the sites you would want to see in a short time to Istanbul. The room was very impressive and comfortable (unlike a number of other places were stayed at while traveling through Turkey). Overall, if I come back to Istanbul I will be staying here 100%.

Villa Sphendone is Perfect!
Wonderful owner with lots of advice and expertise on the area. Perfect location..very short walk to AyaSofya, Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, lots of great restaurants, and right near tram stop. Delicious breakfast every morning.

Expedia chose me this hotel as I needed twin beds... the room was nice but a little disappointing the second bed was a bed settee not having the comfort of the rather impressive four poster bed.The room would be good for a couple but for two single guys needing separate beds it was not really worth the four star price we paid. The hotel is very difficult to find down some back streets and even taxi had difficulty finding it so maybe best to get the hotel to organise your arrival.

Great location. Only a short walk up the hill to the main square in the old town. We stayed for three nights and had a fantastic time! The hotel staff were very helpful and even arranged for an airport collection on our arrival at last minute. Would stay here again if we went back.

A Lovely Hotel
Hotel situated in Sultanahmet district on the Europe side of the City so very convenient for sightseeing (Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace etc). Good location for access to/from Ataturk airport but it would take time to reach from Sabiha Gokcen (especially during rush hour). Public transport is the best way to get around rather than car (tram, metro or ferryboat) and you can buy a top up card for this. Hotel itself was clean and tidy, the room was very large and very nice, the Owner and staff always willing to help. Only issue with the hotel at the time was the building work going on next door but it was off season, during the daytime only and maintenance has to be done at some stage. Location of the hotel in the oldest part of the City means that the streets are narrow, cobbled and steep (not ideal for the infirm). There are plenty of basic restaurants in the area to get food but it pays to look around before you choose one. Would recommend this hotel to any couple on holiday.

Villa Sphendone Suites - Decent Sultanahmet Option
A friend and I stayed at the Villa Sphendone Suites for a weekend recently and mostly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spacious and comfortable for the price, the hotel is very conveniently located just a short five-minute walk from the Blue Mosque, and the staff friendly and helpful, although perhaps a bit too overeager and talkative. We did encounter a few inconveniences, starting with a mildew-like odor that I hope the other rooms here do not suffer from. The room was also a bit noisy due to some close-by construction in the mornings, but hopefully that is only a temporary problem. Finally, the breakfast is pretty bare-bones, and while this is typical of much Istanbul accommodation, I would have expected a little more quality and variety for this price point. All in all, if I didn't have a room booked in advance, I'd certainly consider stopping by and seeing if they room to my liking in the future, but my first choice would probably be to explore some other options the next time I am in town.

A Taste of Istanbul
Overall a great Hotel / Suite, had a wonderful time there. Was situated in the heart of sultanahmet so everything was in walking distance. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a unique stay in Istanbul.

From the moment we arrived we were made more than welcome by Deniz and all of his helpful staff. Villa Sphendone Suites are literally five minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and Hippodrome and not much further from a major tram route., and although the route is uphill we had no difficulty. (We're in our sixties) We always felt safe when walking to and from our accomodation. Deniz is a mine of information which we found invaluable. Because of him we were able to make the most of our stay and explore the many sights both historic and modern. Nothing seems to be too much for him. Our accommodation was clean and tidy with all necessary amenities - the jacuzzi bath was a real boon after lengthy explorations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Greatest place to stay and greatest staff ever
I was extremely pleased with this hotel. At first, my mother and I were not sure about the place. It was so different from the 4 and 5 star hotels we were used to. However, within a day's time, we could not think of any other better place to be. My mother, in particular, kept calling the hotel "home" because the place felt like home. The manager, Denis, was very kind and his staff were the most helpful people I have ever encountered. The room was large and comfortable, much bigger than a traditional hotel room. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. The hotel is in a great location. Everything is within walking distance, but if you are not inclined to walk, as my mother and I are not, there were always cabs available. We were very happy. I plan to go back to Turkey one day. If I do, I am only staying at the Villa Sphendone.

Superb place to stay.
The hotel itself was close to everything. We walked everywhere, no need for a car if you stay here. The staff was wonderful and we had the best service from all of them. They were helpful, friendly and took great care of us while on our trip.

Great location for historical city. Few minutes to Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and tram stops for the rest of the city, but also a quiet neighbourhood. No busy traffic or late-night clubs nearby. Really appreciated the breakfast, which they were happy to serve at any time of the morning. All staff helpful and positive at all times. Bedroom was comfortable and pleasant. Wifi didn't work as advertised - had to go to the hotel kitchen. That's the only reason for the 4 grade, not 5. If you're not a geek like me then who cares?

Great quiet location near the Hippodrome just a short walk to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia. Comfortable warm rooms and plenty of hot water. Perfect for the snow and windy weather we experienced. Deniz and the rest of the staff very helpful; the service could not be faulted.

The hotel staff were very helpful. Besides being friendly, they helped us deal with a difficult situation regarding our lost luggage. The breakfast was plentiful and fresh, the room was clean. The location could not be better for seeing the main historical parts of Istanbul on foot. We cannot wait to go back!
