Came back to JAX for my granddaughter's HS graduation. Was joined by my son, who flew in from Germany for the occasion. The lovely young woman who checked us in apologized profusely because she was unable to upgrade us to a 2 bedroom suite based on my son's active duty military status as the reservation was made via Expedia and not directly with Hilton. He ended up on the very, very uncomfortable and noisy sofa bed. As former Jacksonville residents, we were disappointed in the cleanliness of the room. We expected better from our old hometown. The carpet was very dirty. We didn't dare walk barefoot on it. There was a used washcloth under the bathroom sink. The insides of all the wastebaskets and recycle bins had food residue on them. My son returned to Germany 2 days before I checked out. The night he left, I saw, and killed, 2 roaches in the kitchen near the trash/recycle bins. We had precious little in the way of food containers to throw away, and all were rinsed out before landing in the bins. I found the food residue when I pulled the plastic bags out to dispose of whatever was attracting the bugs. I previously stayed in the Homewood Suites at St. Johns Town Center, and found it to be much nicer as far as the condition of the room furnishings and cleanliness. Daily housekeeping is no longer offered. It must be requested the day before. I don't know if this is a Hilton policy or property management policy. Daily cleaning is essential & should be resumed.
