Beautiful, historic hotel near the Old City

Posted Mar 23, 2017
Pros: Everything.
Location: It is a safe, quiet area, about 20 to 30 minutes walk to the old city, close to public transportation and with easy access to taxis.
The American Colony is not just a hotel, it is a part of Jerusalem history. The beautiful old buildings are set in lovely gardens and courtyards. Rooms are elegant, spacious, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast is ample and delicious, and the restaurant serves a large menu of local and classic dishes. The staff are uniformly pleasant and professional. It is about a 20- to 30-minute walk to the Damascus Gate into the Old City, but there are always taxis available if you don't want to walk (and the taxis here won't try to rip you off, which is not always true elsewhere in the city, unfortunately). It is expensive, but if you can afford it, it is worth every penny.

Delightful, unusual, beautiful, inviting

Posted Jan 24, 2017
Pros: Just about everything.
Cons: Bring the food up to the standard of the hotel.
Location: Smack on the border of Old and New Jerusalem. You will need a car or a taxi to get anywhere.
Situated in an historic compound, stone buildings, arches, cosy garden, free parking, wonderful, but wonderful service, on the border of Old and New Jerusalem, large rooms, very clean, well furnished, reasonably priced. The food in restaurant is good but not as superb as is the hotel. Still, I would not trouble myself to look elsewhere unless I was staying at the hotel for more than a few says. This is definitely not your standard hotel -- it affords a uniquely pleasant stay.

Pros: I think it was like steping into the past....old fashioned charm.
Cons: Nothing really building is Quirky
The hotel was good but not luxury.... they upgraded us to a suite which was nice although a strange but different experiance. One thing was the view it was awful and balcany was covered in bird excrement.... this was call Palm House section of the hotel. Away from main areas. The Hotel was away from anything local, however a not too dufficult walk to The Damascus Gate.

Outstanding experience

Posted Dec 19, 2016 on Hotels
We stayed for a few days and they made us feel at home. Its a throwback type of hotel where the feel is colonial but the luxury is 21st century. The meals were all good, especially the breakfast. The bistro downstairs is outstanding and is buzzing in the evenings with a good fun crowd. Overall its a great place to unwind at the end of a day of touring and sight seeing. I didn't like the fact that there is no coffee machine in the room. It is a little off the beaten path but there are always cabs available within a few minutes. There is very little in the way of shopping or restaurants in the area but that is the only drawback. This is a go to place in Jerusalem

Beautiful, historic compound. Safe location.

Posted Nov 23, 2016
Pros: Spacious room. Historic photographs and decorations throughout.
Cons: Honestly, I can't think of anything that needs improvement.
Location: East Jerusalem is a little far if walking is difficult, but taxis are instantly available and quite reasonable. A short ride to any Old City gate.
A beautiful old world experience. Staff were uniformly excellent and attentive in every respect.

Rough part of Jerusalem.

Posted Nov 3, 2016
Sketchy part of Jerusalem. Streets poorly lit and hotel is away from city center and anything lively tondo at night. Staff could be friendlier. Breakfast was modest and room cleanliness mediocre.
