Terrible experiencePosted Nov 15, 2015
Have stayed at the West Cliff when it with Orient Express spending many hundreds of nights there hence decided to try the West Cliff under Four Seasons. The difference is chalk and cheese - never stay there if you want the service and facilities of the old West Cliff - the air conditioning in my room was not working optimally - imagine the stay in these hot summer months of the Southern hemisphere - called for help with the baggage nobody came waited - nobody came -called again nobody came - after nearly 20-30 mins gave up and carried the bags myself down the stairs etc. When I informed the front office they said please give an email address and the GM would send me a email but till date no email

Beautiful location striking viewsPosted Oct 24, 2015
Resort feeling to the hotel, grand decor. Feels very new, needs to age and develop a little more character. Staff very pleasant mostly young still some glitches to be worked out. Don't miss Breakfast restaurant with great views.

Very nice comfortable hotel, excellent staff.Posted Aug 16, 2015
Pros: Excellent service from all divisions(reception, spa, car service, bellman/porter, managers & restaurant)! Personal service!
Cons: Free shuttle service to nearby malls or close by attraction.
Location: Hyde Park Mall(High End shops) RoseBrank Makk(shops at all levels) Joburg Zoo
As VP of International sales, I travel to South Africa on an on-going basis. This hotel offers the best service with a stunning view and updated facilities. The staff is well trained and will address you by your names & I reference this motion as good personal service. It has been a long time since I received such type of service, including from Four Season based in the United States. Four Season Westcliff is far better than all the premium hotels based in Sandton. But the only drawback vs hotels based in Sandton is easy access to shopping mall, restaurant & etc within walking distance. However several malls are in near distance to this hotel and reliable transportation is available for a fee. Otherwise, The Four Season West Cliff has become my favorite facility. Hopefully the service & etc will be the same during my next stay. thanks, Mrs. Tucker

Stopover on safariPosted Jul 12, 2015 on Hotels
We went to South Africa to visit Cape Town and go on Safari. Going from Cape Town to the safari we had a night in Johannesburg and the Four Seasons was on sale and we decided to splurge. First, google maps did not correctly locate the hotel location but Apple maps did. Save yourself driving in circles (it's not directly on Jan Smuts, you have to turn off the main road and go up a side road). We arrived late but had a great dinner. Service from the staff was excellent and timely (didn't have to ask twice for anything) and the room with a balcony and bed was absolutely amazing (and we like to stay in a lot of top end / 4 star hotels). Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the zoo on a clear day was beautiful and the food was good as well - highly recommended. I cant talk to location but I understand it is in a good part of the city.

Perfect retreat, a little isolatedPosted Jun 14, 2015
Pros: Rooms, restaurants, views, overall comfort
Cons: Nothing once you accept the slightly isolated location, which is anyway fine for a hotel with this character
Location: Johannesburg Zoo is quite close - in fact that, you probably could walk to
You can't really walk anywhere from here, as it's somewhat isolated on a hill amidst very large private residences. However, whether it's truly necessary for safety reasons or not, most visitors to Johanessburg will travel everywhere by taxi anyway. When you do stay on the property, you'll be very comfortable indeed and want for nothing! The braai at "Flames" is great. It's an amazing experience to savour this and cocktails in the full sun so common on a Jo'burg winter's day ... really odd for us Brits! (Also amusing how the locals wear cardigans etc. when it feels warm enough to us!). The "View" restaurant is also a rather individual take - in a good way - on fine dining. Like most restaurants even in five star South African hotels, these are remarkable value at current exchange rates with the Pound. The rooms are just wonderful with huge his-and-hers sinks, a decorative triumph every bit as impressive as the bedrooms themselves. The view doesn't include the fairly famous Johannesburg downtown skyline - that's hidden behind the Parktown hill. However, the views - from the two elevated restaurants mentioned, and some of the rooms - are very enjoyable including Sandton and the Telkom / Hillbrow Tower. A very luxurious retreat - I suggest choosing it for the days when you are NOT going to be doing much sightseeing further afield, as it's a bit of a waste not to maximize the time you actually spend on-property in such a cosseting and attractive place.
