Golden Comfort in City of Gold.
This place was lovely, I felt like a valued customer and would stay here again when i return to Joburg. Joannah on reception has an angelic nature and excellent communication. Resturant team were immaculate and helpful. Felly took care of cleaning my room and was always extremely polite.

Had a problem with parking, the the parking space in P1 and P2 is not easily accessible because of a narrow driveway, but all in all its a nice hotel, will definitely be going back. if you not gonna need parking, if you not driving this is the best hotel. great Location

A diamond in the city!!
Had a great stay! The staff is professional but they could be friendlier. It would be nice if they had complimentary condoms in the room. Also, we didn't know which number to dial for reception..it was not displayed on the bedside. Overall: it's a great hotel!

solo travels to joburg
The staff at the reef is amazing! for a solo traveler it's not the best area to stay in because there is not much around however you can uber everywhere! overall the hotel is very nice, beautiful rooftop venue. for a vegan like myself there are not many options if any so I ate out alot!

The best thing about the property is the staff. They are very friendly and accommodating. Being a solo traveler and staying here I was able to schedule tours and transportation they even helped with uber.

I would stay here again
The hotel and the staff were greatly accommodating. The breakfast provided to guest in the morning was absolutely delicious and filled with all the morning favorites from pastries, eggs your way, fruit, yogurt, fresh juice, coffee, tea, sausage, etc. I really appreciated the staff's hospitality. I do wish the surrounding area was better but Maboneng is about a 10 min drive. I would stay at The Reef again.

The Reef of Utter Disappointment - DON'T DO IT!
I really wanted to like this hotel! Traveling with my mother who had a cold, so at check-in I confirm that our room had two twin beds. "Oh, yes of course!" says the girl at reception. We get in the loudest elevator known to man, come out into a pitch-black hallway with hard to trigger motion detector lights, get to the room, and of course it has ONE double bed. Go back to switch rooms, girl doesn't even acknowledge her mistake. Ok... One of the main reasons I booked this hotel was its claim of a fitness center. So when we check into our new room I head straight for the gym - broken treadmill, elliptical with one side 20cm higher than the other, crooked weight bench covered in dirt. I go to reception to ask if the gym will be cleaned or fixed anytime soon. "I will call the maintenance man right now," she says. My mother is getting sicker and wants to leave early. I go to the front desk to ask about cancellation. "Let me call the reservation manager and get right back to you," she says. The next MORNING I am told cancellation is not possible for online bookings. I ask about the broken gym, get told it will be fixed today. 3 days later: wound up nursing my mother in the room. Gym NEVER fixed or cleaned. Bathroom light is motion detector, so if you spend more than 10 minutes in the shower it will be dark. If you pee in the middle of the night the light and loud fan will stay on for 10 minutes. Walls made of cardboard. Impossibly loud music in the elevators and at breakfast.

Great hidden gem.
While the surrounding area wasn't salubrious the hotel itself was excellent value and the staff were wonderful. I don't think I have ever met more helpful and friendly staff.

This hotel is a average. The neighborhood is much to be desired, we did not feel comfortable walking anywhere from the hotel. It is difficult to get food as everything closes early and will not deliver. We were able to pay Hotel staff to go pick up a pizza for us one night. They have a restaurant attached but the choices are slim, and they did not show us the separate menu that was not displayed on the wall. I would not return to this hotel.

The driver who picked me up from the airport was friendly and informative. He gave me a heads up about the city and what to expect. The hotel is conveniently located and they provide transportation around the city for a reasonable price.

Nice hotel in Central Joburg
The hotel staff were very helpful and caring making sure I didn't have to walk anywhere on my own in Joburg .Chambermaid was very helpful when |I couldn't get into my safe! Lovely breakfast served by cheerful staff.

Hotel staff are nice but need more training in service business. We are getting inconsistent information about pricing for airport shuttle. We asked for a luggage rack and promised one but never get one. Housekeeping was serviced in three different segments.

Friendly clean hotel, with minor aggravations.
Nice hotel. Lovely open air bar on the 15th floor. Good wine, and food. Hotel restaurant was closed over the holiday, so only a "coffee shop" open, but good food. Staff very friendly, but quite incompetent. Took two or three people to check in and out, but they were always smiling. Local neighborhood OK, safe to walk in daylight, I as an elderly single lady did not try it at night.
