Very good locationPosted Aug 14, 2015
Pros: The staff
Cons: Back up water (and possibly power) plan
Location: Near Rosebank, Sandton, Illovo and Parktown. Eat, eat, eat ...... shop ......eat .....
Very friendly and helpful staff although security guard was away from his gate post a few times which is not funny at night in Johannesburg. There was a major municipal water issue and I think he was helping with that however still important to be secure in this city. Room great with loads of space. Food delicious and cheaper than most hotels. Great décor, cool bar and lounge and actually just fine.

Great stayPosted Jun 7, 2015 on Hotels
We only stayed at the Winston for one night after a week long stay volunteering at an animal sanctuary. It was a pauper to prince moment sitting in the room. The hotel is elegant, clean and very safe. The beds were very comfortable, spacious room, nice bathroom and very friendly staff. The hotel is only a few blocks from a major shopping mall where you have a number of dining choices and access to anything you might need for your stay.

Best luxury value in Joburg!Posted May 31, 2015
I've stayed at many hotels in the area: the Residence, 54 on Bath, the Radisson, and I think the Winston has my vote. It's charming and the rooms are SUPER comfortable. The staff makes you feel welcome in an easy natural way that is unusual in Hotels in the region (where good service is often stiff and awkward). The food is fantastic! Everything was really great. And service was fast. Maybe 20 mins for room service. It's also really close to shopping and the train. And they will pick you up from the train when you arrive. No cost. I also used their car service and was pleasantly surprised by the prices. Hotels in the area (like the Residence) charge absurd amounts for the in house drivers. The Winston was really reasonable. I was a big Residence fan. I still am but when you check out you discover that your extra costs- food and car- are as much as the room. It's not ideal. So I wanted to find a luxury alternative that wasn't so expensive. And it's the Winston! A really lovely place! Best part: I accidentally left my laptop in the room and took off for the airport. They found it, called my driver and we ran back and got it.

I'm so glad I ended up choosing this hotelPosted Mar 25, 2015
Pros: Everything - see above.
Cons: Can't think of anything!
Location: Great quite location 2 safe blocks from the Gautrain.
I had looked at several different hotels and ended up choosing this one. Great move. Small boutique feel but with awesome service - bar, restaurant, housekeeping, front desk. Every aspect was great. We had room 23 right above the patio. We could sleep with windows open at night. Beautiful view of the entire patio and courtyard area. Lots of common areas in which to sit and read, chat, relax. You won't be disappointed. And it's a 2 block safe walk to the Gautrain. We ate in the restaurant both nights and were very pleased.

BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MISTAKESPosted Mar 17, 2015 on Hotels
Our stay was very enjoyable for the most part. The front desk was very professional and the service was GREAT!!!! The only negative was that I was given information about the Animal reserve that was not correct. We went to the park knowing that we would pay at the park according to the information we received at the desk. Once arriving we paid for the tour, no problem. When we returned back to the hotel we where asked by the driver if we had paid. I said yes but he stated that i still owed 1700 rand more for the trip. I was not aware and he stated that the HOTEL as well as himself made a mistake of not giving me the entire details of the trip. I offer to split the cost by to no avail. At MIDNIGHT i was awaken by the police and was told that it wasn't my fault but i should pay the driver. I was disappointed that The Winston Hotel did not step forward to help me with the cost. NOT VERY GOOD BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS.

Could do better, could do worsePosted Jan 24, 2015 on Hotels
The hotel has apparently change management from the time we stayed in July 2014. It is hard to say exactly what is different, but the management seems to be less "polished" than before. They are perfectly friendly, but it's just not the same quality. As an example, though they advertise they have cribs they only have one and their solution was to bring in a mattress for the floor for our 3 month old. We made it work, but not exactly an ideal situation for a purportedly five star hotel. I wouldn't let it deter you from staying here, just something to note as you make your choice of where to stay.

New management SUCKS!!!Posted Nov 12, 2014 on Hotels
The new management is so bad, they charged me 600 RAND for early arrival without any warnings. I couldn't find any clause from their website or hotel.com about any early arrival charges. Will never stay there again
