Lost in the 30's

Posted May 2, 2017
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything
Location: Jeremy's restaurant top notch
The motel is lost in the 30's, dark, unattractive, dismal and depressing.

Old traditional motel

Posted Apr 16, 2017
Pros: Nice linens and bedding
Cons: Refurbish the rooms.
Location: Cute town of Julian is three miles away. The restaurant next door is excellent.
The place is old and our room was badly worn. We needed a place to stay and there were not many options. This was clean, the staff were helpful and it was in the right place.

it is not an Inn.. it's an old motel!

Already wrote review. Depressing decor.. old 1990's TV .. carpet and curtains need replacement. Was 4 miles from Julian center.. drove home 3 hours instead of staying! Condition of Mgr office reflects this place. Pool not like picture.

Very minimalist, below average quality.

Pros: Proximity to Julian
Proximity to Julian and lower price than the ones in the heart of Julian are probably the positives. Besides that it is an absolutely minimalist motel that needs maintenance. While it appeared reasonably clean, the carpet was terrible. We had an accessible room so the bathroom was one space with the shower, basin and toilet all together. The floor of the bath sloped down towards the bed area so after taking a shower, the carpet near the door to the bath was soaked. The staff was less than friendly. A query re recommendations for breakfast resulted in a curt response that this was not a bed and breakfast. The heater was incredibly loud - it went on at night and woke us up with a start.

You get what you pay for!

Could not find the hotel.Would not come up on GPS. Why? Probably because it is 3 miles from down town Julian. The location was a disappointment but did not matter too much as what there was in Julian was closed by 6. The breakfast place across the road was closed so that meant another drive to town. Old style clean motel, Time however to get rid of the old heavy bedspreads and use washable and therefore clean duvets. No one in office at check in but the keys were readily available.

I know there are some not-so-nice reviews of this hotel, so I wanted to speak up. This hotel was perfect for our weekend stay in the Julian area. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable and had brand new bedding. The towels were also brand new, very soft and nice. They have Pantene shampoo and soap in the bathroom. The DirecTV worked fine, not that you want to spend a lot of time watching TV when you are in that area! So much to do. Charlie, the man who runs the hotel, is very nice and has two sweet cats in the office. I found the hotel to be very quiet and I had the best sleep ever there. I will stay there again when I go back to Julian! Also! The best place to eat and hear live music on the weekends is literally across the street, and the fine dining place in the area is right next door. Quick five-minute drive into Julian from the hotel.

Nice rustic retreat

Pros: I liked the character of the the place. The decor is full of nostalgia and warmth, and the bed was very comfortable with a super-soft blanket.
Cons: The heater had trouble through the night, and the mold in bathroom could have used some clearing up.
Location: It's really close to all the places that serve Julian's famous pies, and it's a quick drive from there to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
I stayed here for a night in January. The room was brimming with character with a spacious bed, lace tablecloth, and a vanity. It was a charming place with quick access to Julian and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Rustic Inn just outside of town

Posted Oct 25, 2016 on Hotels
Just a few short miles from historic downtown, the Apple Tree Inn is a quiet and restful country inn. The rooms are large, and extremely clean. This is an older property, but well maintained with the owners onsite. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the room was a sense of peace and calm, with a deceptively large room compared to what I expected. (I don't know what detergent they use, but it smells fresh and clean and higher end... none of that overly flowery fake scent but also not an overwhelming bleach smell. it's just clean) Instant hot water? yes please! I love that the owners took the care to ensure that their guests don't need to wait more than one second for hot water, especially on a chilly morning. Speaking of the owners, they want you to be happy and comfortable. It felt like I was visiting with long lost cousins. After checking in, they provided me with a brochure of things to do in Julian, recommendations, and make sure I had everything I needed. This is pet friendly, but even so, they went above and beyond to make sure my super service pup and I were comfy. While not in downtown, you won't be left to starve. Feel like a rack of lamb by a Cordon Bleu chef? Walk next door (literally). Want a salad or pizza or pasta? Across the street, as is a lovely bakery. Want some fresh pressed apple cider? 30 feet away. This is a perfect place if you want to be close to town (it took me five minutes to get there) but sleep in peace.
