Prepared to pull out stops for weary travellers.

Posted Jul 24, 2016
Pros: See above.
Cons: Very little.
Location: Ours was only a fleeting stay as a pit stop before Marbella although there is an abundance of things to do in the area apparently.
My family and I had travelled from London to Marbella (1400 miles) by minibus on our annual trip of summer madness by driving non-stop to the Costa del Sol. Whilst we had planned to arrive at the hotel in time enough to have a meal and a few drinks before bed, traffic in Madrid and elsewhere meant we were quite delayed. I called the hotel and spoke with David, (one of the owners) who advised me that the Bar and restaurant closed at 10.00pm but not to worry as they'd "sort something out when we arrived". We eventually rocked up quite a bit afterTen and were initially shown our rooms in an unhurried manner before being served 3 excellent courses at our leisure. We were most grateful to the guys for doing this for us as by the time we had retired it was really quite late. They will have our eternal gratitude. Aside from the excellent service and utterly delightful setting the hotel has a rustic charm that causes surprise when you consider that it is only 16 years old. The pool area is clean and tidy as are the rooms. If you are looking to explore this part of the world you would (I am sure) be hard pressed to find a better hotel at all let alone for the very reasonable price we paid. I have no hesitation in recommending this great little find which is heavily themed on the "Smurfs" or as David advised me "Schtumps" of you are in France. This is because this is where the 2 recent Smirk films were launched here. A full recommendation from us! Thanks again.

Out-of-the-way Charm

A lovingly restored rural hotel in the tiny, blue-painted hill town of Juzcar, Hotel Bandolero was a great escape from the noise and crowds in Andalusia. The bilingual proprietors gave personal attention and great insight into the area. Terrific restaurant complements of chef Ivan. The drive in from any direction can be somewhat harrowing, as the winding, two-way road is just over one lane wide as it passes through the gorgeous Sierra Nevada. The smurfiness was cute but a little cloying.

Thank you for your comment. One correction, the hotel is not a restoration, it was purpose- built new.

Pretty much perfect BUT........

Only tiny moan is that for a hotel based in the middle of a blue Smurf village, the restaurant menu could have included a few kids meals ? The food was good but nothing my two would entertain. Probably lack of education on my part but that's kids today !!

Thank you and in response to the moan, the restaurant has a couple of food options for children on its menu including pizzas, but are not called "kids meals" because we are not McDonalds.

Charmerende bjergby med blå huse og smølfer påmalet husene samt store smølfefigurer flere steder i landsbyen. Indbygger ca. 150 personer, her leves livet i fred og ro med naturen. Husene bliver malet igen i december, næste film bliver optaget i marts 2017.
