Aston Kaanapali - 2 BR Condo

Posted Jan 14, 2018
Pros: Quiet and nice staff
Cons: Beach access although this is outside the control of the hotel.
Location: Great restaurants! Merriman's and Pacific O were fabulous!! Whale watching was great and we had convenient loading close by and lots of whales!
Nice hotel and staff. Well maintained. Quiet at night and enjoyed sleeping with the windows and doors open. Good onsite restaurant with friendly wait staff. Not a lot of beach and it was rocky. The second BR had 2 twin beds that were small for my older children.

I'm starting by saying I will stay here again.

Posted Jan 5, 2018
Pros: Location
Cons: Maid service, clear expectation of what an ocean view is.
This place has a great location, 10 minutes from some great snorkeling in Kapalua and close to dinner in Lahaina. It's a long walk but you can walk to black rock. The pools are great and fun with kids. We decided this hotel would work for our family due to location, pools, and full kitchen in room. But I wanted to post some warnings to Expedia users. Don't pay the upgrade for a "View" Room. We paid the upgrade our view was pretty terrible, yeah I can see if the ocean if I sat on the Lanai and leaned out. I arrived at 11 PM after 15 hours of travel with 3 kids on Christmas day. I just didn't have the energy to fight it out for the "view" I was told by the front desk that "view" doesn't mean "ocean view", it means a view, like I can see above the trees. So don't pay extra to see above trees, none of their rooms look toward the mountain so just take what you can get. If you are someone who expects your room to be cleaned daily, because you are paying a $20 resort fee everyday, this is not the hotel for you. Our 10 night stay we probably had the room cleaned 4 or 5 times. I know they only change the sheets every 4 days, but we went quite a few days with no one to even take out the trash. The room only sleeps 4, not the 5 on my reservation. Front desk didn't say well let me bring up a roll away or anything. Plus, we started our stay with only 2 towels in the room. I had to call for more towels, blankets, and pillows.

Pros: Staff was friendly, supplied Christmas lights for the balcony, had a lighting ceremony with eggnog, punch and cookies.
Location: Location is great, but can't go right to the beach (need to take a little walk - not the end of the world).
Room was old and tired and much too expensive considering the state - old kitchen, old carpet, musty smell. Bathroom needed to be completely renovated. Pool was new but they used too many chemicals - couldn't get the smell out of the swimsuits. Was pleasantly surprised that the room had a washer and dryer as we were told it didn't.

Functional!

Posted Jan 3, 2018
This hotel met our needs in that it accommodated a five-person family, but the room was dingy and dated. The bedroom had really uncomfortable pillows and a small bed. You could feel every spring in the pullout couch. The shower curtain was rusted through. The main hotel area was not bad but the service was challenged. We had to ask them three times for blankets (room had none) and three times for our toilet to be fixed. They also nickel and dime you with extra charges. The beach is pretty unusable and would avoid the restaurant.

Aloha, The beach fronting our resort, like all beaches in an island/shore-line environment, is subject to change by way of changing ocean swell and weather conditions. The reality is that we simply cannot control the events of nature. The beaches in other resort areas on the island have experienced similar effects, with sand having been washed away quite severely at times. While this natural phenomenon does occur from time to time, what is also true is that the sand does wash back in as well…and at different times every year. As an aside, the ocean fronting our resort is typically beautiful and is known for some of the best snorkeling in north Ka'anapali, with tropical fish, turtles and even a sea horse from time to time. Also, while admittedly slightly less convenient, there is a wide expanse of white sand beach a 5-minute drive (2 miles) from us in the south Ka’anapali Resort area. We truly appreciate your honest feedback. Mahalo and warmest aloha.

Hotel had no beach front property

Posted Jan 2, 2018
Pros: The people who worked here were very nice. The hotel concierge people were extremely helpful. The small waterfall was a nice touch in the lobby.
Cons: The pool was ok but small and average looking. They need more waiters to serve the people around the pool.
Location: Location was not good as there was no beach at this hotel. It would be better to go to another hotel on the beach.
The hotel is just average for the price they are charging. There is no beach front property so you can't walk down the beach or swim here. You need to go to another hotel beach if you want to swim.

Great option

Posted Jan 1, 2018
Natural changes to the shoreline (loss of beach) over the past few years is unfortunate and reduces the appeal of this otherwise excellent resort. Great room options, including separate bedroom(s), kitchens, and in-suite washer and drier are major plus. The garden and pool area are beautiful and the on-site restaurant is excellent.

a good mix of home and hotel

Posted Dec 30, 2017
Pros: everything. I'll stay here next time I'm in Maui.
Cons: the fitness facility should be free to use. they currently charge a daily fee.
Location: the location is great. close driving and walking distance to lovely beaches, lots of shopping near by and only 15 minutes from lahaina.
I love staying here, the condos are clean and fulfill the basic needs of any family. very comfortable. The pools are both wonderful, clean, big. My only complaint is that Mother Nature moved the beach out to sea. This resort is no longer beach front, but it is water front!
