Old and dated, too pricey for what you get

Posted Jan 9, 2018
Pros: On the beach
Cons: Needs a complete remodel and the dolphin pool is tiny, its just cruel.
Location: Well it's in Honolulu so there is a ton of stuff to do. Golf, hike, snorkel, shop, nightlife, etc etc.
This place was once the gold standard of hotels in Honolulu but it has seen better days. It is just old and dated. Still very nice and right on the beach but it lacks the high quality you would expect for such an outrageous price.

Oh Kahala....

Posted Jan 6, 2018
Pros: The staff, every one we encountered was always friendly and accommodating.
Cons: For hotel of this class the bed pillows are not good enough. Gave me pain in the neck. They should be feather down of the best kind.
Location: For some, the location might be out of the way but we came to relax although the beach/pool areas were a bit crowded. So stake your space early.
The reception at the Kahala when we arrived couldn't be more professional. Our check-in was dealt speed and smiling faces, gift for the little one, all exude warm welcome which set the tone of our stay. The staff even offered to take pictures of us with the famous xmas tree while waiting for our luggage. We wished we could stay a little longer but we were bound for the Big Island after 3 days. If there is one criticism we will make is that to dine in any of the Kahala restaurants making a reservation is a must. Just being guests in the hotel wouldn't guarantee you a priority booking. And there is no where you can walk to for alternative dining, casual or otherwise. To be able to play golf on their course would be awesome too but it wasn't that easy and expensive. All in all a most wonderful place to stay, we will definitely come back.

Location: Waikiki and Hawaii Kai are minutes away with more than you can do or see even if you stay a month
In my opinion the Kahala gives you Hawaii's best first class vacation experience. It's like going back in time to the kinder gentler days of old without all the glitz and glitter of a newer hotel. From the moment you arrive every member of the staffs attention to your comfort and satisfaction are the priority. The rooms are large and comfortable with elegant classic Hawaiian decor. Sure some of the details in the rooms could be updated like the older wooden cabinets that show signs of wear, but even this is part of the charm. The pool and beach are great with friendly and helpful staff. If you want crowds and craziness stay in Waikiki. If you want a peaceful relaxing experience stay at the Kahala.

Nice and clean room but disappointed staff

Posted Dec 19, 2017
Everything is okey but check-out staff had too bad manner. Even she never ask us that how was the stay and never show us smile. It is seriously contrast to Aurani resort staff’s kindness.

Thank you for sharing. So disappointed you did not receive a proper farewell. That is not typical or to The Kahala's standard.

Really nice hotel. Upscale resort. It is an older resort but kept up. Nice choices in restaurants as well.

Over all 5 stars

Posted Dec 11, 2017
Kahala is always been my favorite Hotel in Oahu and its always exceed my expectation. I considered that hotel a paradise since it’s awsy from a busy part of Waikiki :-) From the entrance of the hotel, to the main lobby and of course the room and all the amenities and the quality of food and entertainment, it sfor everyone! Weather you want to bring the whole family or your loved ones to celebrate the special occasion. kahala Hotel Resort is highly recommend. Again it’s 5 stars over all! I will always Come back here.

Reputation exceed reality

Posted Nov 30, 2017
Pros: The location and the service.
Cons: The hotel is a nice old hotel. It's small. They charge you for everything, Not much they can do to change /improve the hotel. It is what it is.
Location: Waikiki shopping and eating. It's Honolulu, an international city. Museums, Pearl Harbor, waterfalls, tropical forests and exploring.
I've stayed at the Kahala many times -- twice last year. Service is always excellent, especially the bell/valet staff and restaurant staff. I made my reservation about 6 months early. I got the "4th night free with breakfast' package with the scenic room. If you go to the Kahala website, the room picture shows trees, grass and mountains, which is what I got the last 4 or 5 times I stayed there. This time, my room was on top of the restaurant and my scenic view was of the restaurant roof and hotel parking lot. I went back down to the check - in counter and asked for a different room. I was told that they didn't have any other scenic rooms available but they would upgrade me for $150.00. I agreed and they moved me up 2 floors, directly above the first room, I was still over the restaurant and my view was still the parking lot, but now I could also see the ocean. I was upset, but didn't want to make another move. Fast forward to check out and saw that the upgrade was $150 a night AND they charged me for all four nights ... no fourth night free. I had to get to the airport so, I decided to let it go, but the sting of the situation stayed with me during the entire flight and I'm still irritated .. probably more at myself for not complaining to the manager. In any event, that was my last stay at the Kahala and that is why I would not recommend it to any of my friends.

Incredible Resort

Posted Nov 26, 2017
Pros: Staff, Rooms, Food, Spa, Private Beach, Pool, etc
Cons: nothing!
We had a wonderful experience at this hotel. It was absolutely beautiful in every way and was far enough away from the business of Waikiki to truly feel like a tropical vacation.
