Good place to get away from downtown Kaikaura

Away from the "hub-bub" of the tourist area. Friendly hosts invite you into their B&B home. Excellent garden to decompress in.

B & B with a view

Posted Oct 7, 2015 on Wotif
Pros: Handy to the centre of town, but feels remote and private. Spectactular views of sea and mountains. Friendly, welcoming hosts
Location: Heaps of opportunities for adventure tourism
Perfect spot for a weekend getaway. Harder to find a more perfect location.

Room with a great view

Posted Jan 11, 2015
Pros: The view, the breakfast and the owners Lynn & John two really nice people ( we would definitely go back here again )
Cons: Everything seemed to be new so nothing
Location: This accommodation was probably the best located on our trip, fantastic views, near to Kaikoura and only a short trip to the town
We arrived here for two separate day stays ( with a gap of four days in between ) we were met by Lynn & John who were more than helpful they helped us with trips out to restaurants, the best beaches and the seal colony The Ohua waterfalls and the seals on the adjacent beach were great you could get really close to them We went on the whale watch trip which was a once in a lifetime trip next time the dolphin and seal swim will be arranged

Austen Heights B&B, Kaikoura

Posted Jun 27, 2014
Pros: Lovely, homely experience with welcoming and helpful hosts who also respected our privacy. The gardens to this property are beautifully kept.
Location: Austen Heights is located above the small town of Kaikoura with great views. It is easy to find and a short drive down to the main street.
Kaikoura is a 'must-see' destination on a trip to New Zealand. It is a small town with restaurants, cafes and bars along the main street that runs parallel to the seashore. The road continues along the side of the bay for several kilometers. Lots of sea life here with a seal colony on the rocks approaching Kaikoura from Picton. We enjoyed a whale watching trip booked for us by Lynne, our host, at Austen Heights. The accommodation was easy to locate and when the clouds cleared the views of the mountains from here were spectacular. We were made to feel very much 'at home' by Lynne and John who gave us an insight into living in New Zealand and a first hand experience of the earthquake in Christchurch.

Pros: Comfortable leather chairs
Cons: Lock on heater only giving 2 out of 4 bar setting
Top price pd for size of room

Hi Julie and David, if you had asked about the heater you would have been told to hold the set button in for a few seconds and this would have unlocked it. guests must have locked it. As for our prices we are told they are very good for the service and quality of our rooms. All the very best for 2014!
