Stunning, Romantic Cottage on Slope of Hualalai

Adults-only cottage in Kailua-Kona
On the Kona side, safe and away from the volcanic activity, the Cottage awaits you.

The perfect, peaceful getaway for those on a honeymoon or looking for a relaxing, romantic experience. This warm, welcoming, newly-built and finely crafted studio cottage provides modern comfort while retaining the spirit of old Hawaii. This mountain paradise is surrounded by native trees and a tropical garden. The Cottage at Ohia Place is situated in North Kona, at a cool 1600' elevation on Mount Hualala'i in Kaloko Mauka.

The cottage is in close proximity to Kailua Kona village, shopping, restaurants, beaches, activities, the harbor, hiking trails and upcountry golf courses. The airport is 15 minutes away. Your host, Gale, lives on the 1.5 acres shared with the Cottage.

The accommodation features open beam wood ceilings, ohia hardwood floors, mahogany and granite kitchen, brand-new queen -sized bed (with a Memory Foam topper), large slate shower, fully equipped kitchen and a lovely lanai that enhances the inside/outside lifestyle of Hawaii.

The cottage is 720 sq feet under roof, including the lanai.

Your host will provide you with details about the many island activities, tours, sight-seeing, beaches and cultural experiences as well as shopping and restaurants, all within an easy driving distance from your home.

Born and raised in Kona, the host's father was one of the founders of the sports fishing business in Kona in the early 50s; she and her family remain closely involved with the fishing community. She has spent her professional life welcoming guests and connecting them to the rich traditions of the islands. We love the island of Hawaii: the vastness, the colorful and unique local customs, the sunshine and sunsets of the Kona Coast, and the hunting and fishing traditions of the Big Island.

A vintage picnic basket is available for your pleasure. If you're headed out to explore the island. You are welcome to use a cold bag for shopping, cooler, beach chairs and towels.

This is a place you will call home... will want to remember... and will return to.

Best ever!
Gale's cottage is the absolute best! We had such a wonderful stay- the property itself is amazing, super clean (inside and out), in a great central location and Gale is so lovely- she provides everything you need while you're visiting Hawaii, including homemade banana bread and fruit and avocados from her yard! We had breakfast every morning on the front deck (with a view of the ocean), barbecued outside, and used the beach chairs and umbrella for all of our days in the sun. In addition, she provided recommendations for places to visit on the island, including restaurants, hikes and beaches! We could not have been happier to find this cottage, would absolutely recommend it to those looking for a Big Island stay and will be back for a visit soon!

Beautiful property
Gale was fabulous. She met us at the gate and was available whenever we needed her. The cottage has everything and the location anc property are incredible. Her new lawn mower is state of the art. It runs like a whisper. We will visit again for sure.

We loved it!
The cottage was incredible!! It’s amazing how clean and well kept it was for being 5 years old, it felt like we were walking into something brand new! One thing we also loved was how private the cottage felt, we loved that it was away from the hustle and bustle of the town and all you could hear was nature! On top of that, as all the reviews say Gale is delightful, she is so sweet, generous, and gracious! Also she has thought of quite literally everything you could possibly need!! All in all, you definitely should stay here!

5/5 Excellent

It was a complete privilege to stay here. We are adventurers who usually see our lodging as secondary to the landscape we are visiting. This time around, the cottage offered its own beauty—a reflection of Gales' passion for and appreciation of her Big Island home. Spotless and filled with every convenience, the cottage offered rest and artistry, great comfort and inspiration to explore this magnificent island. From the gardens to the grill, the lanai, and the details indoors. we savored every minute while staying in the cottage. We are so grateful to have found this lovely lovely place.

Mountain Paradise with Aloha Spirit
This is by far my favorite VRBO that we have ever stayed in. We came in late from our flight and immediately felt the Aloha spirit from the moment we arrived in the driveway. Gale met us to open the gate and to answer any questions…she is the type of person that makes you feel welcome and at ease from the moment you meet her. It is the attention to detail that will have you want to come back again and again. Gale had homemade warm banana bread, a lovely fruit basket, a couple of Kona Brewery beers, sparkling water, chilled water and delicious Kona Coffee for our morning coffee out on the balcony. I could go on and on about the wonderful little touches that make this an outstanding place to stay. Beautiful wood and craftsmanship is throughout the cottage. The bed was very comfortable and we felt like we were sleeping in a tree house with all the birds & frogs and lovely gardens surrounding the property. The kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed and we cooked breakfast and dinner most days at the cottage. The bath/hair products that were provided were wonderful…I have already ordered some for my home. We enjoyed many wonderful excursions hiking, snorkeling, fishing & Scuba Diving. Gale’s family history on the island is very interesting….she shared an awesome article about her father and his legacy/history on the island with us. We booked a charter on her brother’s sport fishing boat, Sea Baby III, and had a great time out on the ocean. Gale recommended a great farmer’s market in Waimea and also a local fruit/vegetable stand that we frequented during our stay. We loved that we were renting from someone that was born and raised on the island and was able to share some the wonderful rich history with us. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with us and we can’t wait to come back again!
