Terrible Experience

Posted Sep 29, 2015
Pros: The fire place at the entrance
Cons: Owners have to invest some serious money in renovations and bring professional managment.
Location: Although downtown Kamloops has some nice boutiques and restaurants; unfortunately is has been invaded by lots of scary characters, especially at night
This is an old/decaying hotel located downtown Kamloops, BC. Parking is charged additionally and is located in an area prone to theft. In general, the facilities and finishes are in desperate need of some serious renovation. The elevator seems more like a "service lift". Our room was very small and the furniture was full of dust. Our window faced a dark alley where some scary character gathered until late at night to drink and smoke. Breakfast was the worst of all; there were only two attendants for tens of clients, Buffet food was cold and dry (for sitting for a long time) and it tasted horrible, We had to wait for 25 minutes to have our coffee refilled. It is definitely not worth it. Management needs to do a far better job. We strongly advice you to consider another hotel.

Older Building Very Nicely Re-appointed

Posted Sep 28, 2015
Pros: see above Also, for a downtown location it seemed pretty quiet.
Cons: breakfast buffet
Great staff! Building has been very nicely redone/renovated. One area for improvement is the breakfast buffet which was just ok. Had to ask for milk or juice if you wanted it as none was provided at the buffet. And those egg beaters, yeesh. Other items were good to better than. Elevator is a little smaller than most and the day we were there it was a little balky, but definitely no big deal. Would definitely stay there again.

vintage elegant hotel

lovely experience, with friendly staff, nicely appointed, central downtown location. There is a restaurant in the hotel and many recommended restaurants nearby. There is access to a pool (we didn't have time to take advantage of). The parking is next to the hotel. the elevator is small, but 2 of us were able to fit with our luggage, and the staff was helpful.

Insgesamt gute Unterkunft in Kamloops.

Posted Sep 23, 2015

Nice Heritage hotel close to shopping and dining

Posted Sep 14, 2015
Pros: Very clean
Cons: pool and hot tub not on site, but you have access to the Y facilities 3 blocks away
Location: Right down town with lots of shopping, dining, bars and River Park walk way
Friendly staff, fast and easy check in and check out. Very nice heritage hotel that has been nicely renovated to keep the heritage feel. Doesn't look very nice from outside but inside very surprising

The hotel and staff were fantastic I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Expedia on the other hand was a brutal experience and I will never use this booking site again.

Good location, tired reno of an old hotel

Posted Sep 9, 2015
Pros: The hotel was easy to find, close to lots of shops in the 'nice' part of the old downtown. Right next door to a liquor store and decent coffee shop.
I found the pictures online to be really deceiving. The Plaza Hotel has been updated, not restored, and the reno doesn't seem to be that focused on quality. While there are some beautiful features, like the hardwood floors, overall I found the room was dirty and didn't work at all. Cabinet doors wouldn't close, I wasn't able to control the heat (only AC?), there was strangely no tea in the room (only coffee) and the cups were all dirty... one coffee mug was even too sticky to touch. If you value your health please wash your own cups before using, as at least one staff member is clearly just rinsing them and putting them back. There was a pointless desk space which made it hard to walk around the beds and was too small to actually do any real work on. The toilet seat had a brown spatter on it which I can only hope was coffee remnants, and which I easily wiped down myself... while wishing the chambermaid and a bit of Lysol had spent that extra 3 seconds to do it for me. There was a lot of food at breakfast but it was about as good as standard Denny's fare. Greasy sausages, bacon, plain scrambled eggs, pancakes from a box, fruit and cereal. Also, parking is all above ground and $8 a night, which turns out to be a good deal as it's good till 6 pm the next day.
