Great River Hotel
Remote but easily accessible by car or ferry boat from the nearest pier! Excellent and friendly service during our stay with great food and breakfast buffet with lots of options! Very quite and relaxing environment!

Sometimes you go to a place that is good for the soul. This is River Kwai Resotel. It is so relaxing and refreshing to be there. The environment is serene, the food is great and the staff are so warming and accomdating. I rarely leave reviews, but felt compelled to leave one for this property. It's a 10 out of 10 from me and my family.

Property restaurant is ok, but the service was horrible. Ordered a bottle of white wine- no ice bucket came, ordered 3 cokes and a water which never came until we got them ourself. Had to get back up for glasses, wrong dishes came out after 45min to an hour. Others had came and gone and we didn’t even have our food. One dish came, but with no plates or silverware. It took 10 more minutes to get that, then we had one cold dish. Overall property is nice. The ONLY restaurant available has horrible service.

A hidden oasis of beauty and calmness. The rooms are very well appointed. We chose to drive all the way to the property and had already read reviews about the track leading to the resort...it is not a track, it's a perfectly comfortable road with stunning scenery, so please don't be put off driving there. The views of the river were wonderful, calming and serene. This really is a wonderful resort and one that we will return happily to.

A very beautiful and peaceful resort. The room was big and clean. I liked that the resort is located on a green territory, it felt like living in a park. It was pleasant to walk around and meditate. It is a great escape from big city life. The only downside was the regular noise from the long tail boats that depart from the resort pier from very early in the morning. Also, the staff uses walkie talkies as they clean the rooms and roam around the terrotory and I found that noise somewhat disturbing.

I liked everything about this property... the setting was lush jungle, but beautifully manicured to be inviting without being overwhelming. And of course, set on the banks of the Khwae Noi River, a tributary to the famous River Kwai (Khwae Yai). The staff provided outstanding service and help.. I couldn't have asked for more.

Everything was excellent, very nice tropical resort. Friendly staff and restaurant. My only issue was there were no other restaurants or shops near the hotel. Plus the beer and food was expensive compared to thai prices.

I arrived by rail at Nam Tok and found transport to the Resortel pier where I caught the long tail boat to the resort with no problem. The resort is older bus well maintained. It’s location and surroundings are beautiful. I would definitely go back again. Food at the restaurant was reasonable and acceptable. Staff were friendly.

The hotel is a nice resort in wonderful settings. We travelled there by car and it was OK to find, although you would not want to meet a big lorry coming the other way on the narrow winding road to the hotel. The rooms are bungalows set in grounds with jungle type vegitation around, so its not surprising to find wildlife too. We found a large spider in our room but was able to capture it and put it outside. The disappointments were about noise generated by tour groups early in the morning. Tour groups on rapid turnover seem to be the main business for the hotel. Its not then conducive to independent travellers. The food was not overly good and the tea at breakfast was disgusting. The food and drink was also very expensive. I know the place is a bit out of the way, but its only about twenty minutes drive from Nam Tok where all the usual produce is available.

However, in order to clarify the situation, may we take this rare opportunity to explain that generally, we of course clearly declare the noise policy to all of our guests as ”Making a loud sound in the place is not allowed especially after 10 p.m” Furthermore, we always attempt our best to enforce this strict rule, should there is any violation, the warning process would be properly taken effect immediately. In your case, after thoroughly investigating, we have not received the critical report such a said issue, therefore, we assume that there were probably the client group who came from Europe during your certain date of stay. In addition, normally, such a particular matter seldom happen at here. Based on our data, most guests usually appreciate and absorb the tranquil natural atmosphere quite peacefully without disturbing other visitors by making loud sound. Anyway, please accept our sincere apologies for your inconvenience and we absolutely reemphasized the matter to our staffs so that this would be paid extra attention from our team. As you mentioned regarding our food's taste, may we further add that we certainly realize that each people would have their own favorite taste of food, therefore it's such a delicate matter to particularly debate. Anyway, we would like to strongly express our viewpoint that our chef always meticulously choose, cook and serve finest quality ingredient, fresh local food and new produce every meal so that our client would receive the greatest taste of cuisine while being with us. Beautiful location, right beside the river, the scenery was amazing. The rooms are great, so comfortable. They said WiFi only at reception but there was strong WiFi all the way through the resort. So that was a bonus! And the staff, from the front desk to the restaurant were so friendly and accommodating. I would, and have, recommended to my friends and family.

Great Retreat
This hotel is in a remote location, so if you want to get away from it all - this is your place. Its over 60kms from Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai Museum and Bridge, so a trip to see them can cost between THB1600 - 1800 one way or THB2300 rtn from the hotel. Set right on the river it is peaceful and tranquil but with nothing around it, so all food and drink must be bought from the hotel and they do charge a premium small Chang beer at THB100. The restaurant serves reasonable food but they do like staying open past 9.00 p.m.- Breakfast is average. Rooms are in a fair condition and 'rustic' in nature

I did not know what to expect as I booked this hotel kind of on a whim and in the middle of booking several other hotels. I found out that this hotel was far from the city thanks to a tour guide and was amazed when we actually arrived. It is in a secluded jungle area. Really nice, quiet and different than any other hotel I stayed in.

Fantastic !!!
WiFi was out because of monsoon that they had before we arrived. But walked outside and was able to use phone internet. No biggie...we enjoyed Ewarn Falls at the national park which they helped provide a private car to take us and even found a couple to share the ride and cost. Ended up making new friends from Norway.

A great place for families and couples looking for a jungle get away. The activists they provide include ziplining, canoeing, pool and biking. Only thing I should warn travelers is that the reception for phone service is low. The WiFi did not reach to my room but can sit at the reception area. They shut their WiFi around 9

Unique experience
This resort is located next to a river and to get to the hotel you need to take a boat which was a unique experience. Remember to bring insect repellent as the resort is located within the jungle.

Remote, but not completely remotely located
It is located at a very beautiful location on the other side of River Kwai Noi. There's nothing much to do around the hotel unless you take the boat to the other side of the river. But the service is flawless. You can take the Hotel's long tail boat at almost anytime until 6pm. Breakfast and Dinner buffet are pretty good. Don't expect to stay in and watch TV in the room because you're supposed to go places. TV reception is bad because it is in the jungle.

so much potential, completely neglected
the hotel has a lot of potential but unfortunately they seem to get major business through tour groups and don't care about maintenance and upkeep (our first room had a balcony with holes and a bench that broke when a 70kg person was trying to sit. the hotel is reachable by car if driving to lawa cave - as such there's significant traffic considering the location.

If you are planning your stay at the river kwai properties especially serenata group of hotels - dont book outside tours on that day - just enjoy the facilities and activities at the resort for a day and then check out and head to our outside tours.

Beautiful location
Plus: beautiful, well-maintained gardens: don't miss out on walk towards Lava Cave and Gravel Beach. Nice mini-theatre for shows of local minority people dance performances. Rooms afford privacy and are quiet - perfect for a good night's sleep. Minus: despite extensive menu on offer, it's not easy to find healthy, non-oily food options and vegetarians are not catered for at all. No mobile phone, 3G reception. Wifi highly unreliable and only if at all available around lobby area. Apart from the Manager who is very friendly and helpful, staff don't exactly go out of their way to be friendly. A missed opportunity was the fact that the pier on the river was not at all as shown in the picture. It would make such a great dinner venue, but sadly it does not appear to be used for anything other arriving and departing boats. Resort is about 40km from Hellfire Pass & Museum and 70km from Kanchanaburi city and River Kwai bridge. Having your own car is very handy, if not essential in order to visit these sites. But all in all, a perfect getaway for a relaxing stay in a most beautiful part of the country.

Ok. But a bit too much like a posh prison.
The hotel is in an amazing part of the world. What I didn't realise is that there are only free transfers from the hotel on arrival and departure. due to its isolation (which is admitabily why I booked it) it's impossible to leave the resort without paying for a longboat transfer (7 min journey costing 1200 baht each way) then the cost of having to book a taxi on top. Or book a very expensive planned activity. The resort was fine. A bit tired in places but that didn't matter as it was in such a great spot. The room was a bit musty but again it's the jungle! It just left a bad taste in my mouth not being able to afford to leave the resort.

In the jungle - a relaxing paradise
Really nice place in the jungle and a good spot beside river Kwai. Nice morning and evening sun. Restaurant had good food, also breakfast enough to fill your stomach. Welcoming and friendly staff, wonderful foot massage!

Adventure Escape
We stayed as a group of three couples, each had their own little self contained cabin. It is a delightful location, certainly along the adventure realm. We did a short hike to lava caves, canoeing on the river. Trip up the river in long tail boats. Beautiful food at the restaurant, beautiful location. Night time it is amazing, a get back to nature trip.
