Helpful and friendly staff. Most rooms have balconies or patios overlooking the bay. Central location to access other areas of the island. Many exotic birds to view both in the bay and in the trees near the lodge. Several nature walks start right from the lodge.

Few to choose from in this area

Posted Oct 10, 2016 on Wotif
Location: Kingscote and American River are not the feature tourist areas of KI
Although there is nothing drastically bad about this hotel , it would not rate very well in an area where there is a large choice of comparable accommodation. It is obvious the place is undergoing an upgrade from what looks like a run-down state so there may be better days to come. The restaurant seems to have most of the upgrade, the pool area is out of action and very shabby around there and in the laundry. Room was clean and reasonably updated, we found the king bed very uncomfortable!!

Quiet hotel near the water

Posted Oct 1, 2016 on Hotels
Friendly, helpful staff; lovely restaurant; delicious food; delightful water/bay view; large bed; comfortable pillows; small shower with weak water pressure; well-maintained garden; great pool area; quiet & relaxing location; limited shops or activities nearby

Loved the Staff

Posted Aug 3, 2016 on Wotif
Pros: Hands down, the view over the bay!
Cons: Definitely the bathrooms need updating
Location: Tucked away between Penneshaw and Kingscote, no facilities after dark, peaceful, serene and pleasing to the eye. Pelican feeding, Oysters & Cafe.
All staff on all shifts were very friendly, helpful and professional. Had a lovely stay

American River

Posted Mar 4, 2016 on Wotif
Pros: Its a great location with beautiful views through the trees. Great staff. Easy parking.
Cons: TV reception is not good. Not really important as its a good opportunity to read that new book you packed.
Location: Lovely walks. Scenic waterfront. Old docks with small café. Great location from which to do trips all over the island. Airport not far away.
We have stayed at the Mercure Lodge at American River on Kangaroo Island before, and find it a great base from which to tour the island. Its a beautiful location overlooking the water with lovely walks down to the old docks where the fishing boats tie up. The rooms are good and the food is really good, especially breakfast.
