5 Star Rating, 10 Stars for Effort!

Pros: The Hotel Staff, Shopping floors, food, restaurants, and walking distance to the Yuan General Hospital.
Cons: Provide temporary accommodations for persons with disabilities.
Because first trips are normally used as a standard for evaluating experiences, I have to give credit to the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel for going beyond their standards in order to make my stay pleasant. My trip was for medical reasons and being a foreigner with limited mobility using a wheelchair for getting around, it was difficult to communicate. I was fortunate that the Yuan General Hospital provided english speaking staff in addition to the help of my brother in law's best friend. Although the hotel did not comply with the US ADA requirements, they ensured that I was comfortable and made every effort to meet my needs as best they could. Be aware that in order to enter any of the restaurants in the 10th floor, you must climb at least one step up. I avoided this floor, thankfully, there were other accessible areas that had good food. I recommend the Harbour restaurant at the 43rd floor and the food court in B3. Pay close attention to the floor assignments on the elevators. Elevators are assigned specific floors, so be careful. An example of their efforts was one day a Bellhop personally escorted us to the shopping floors and made sure we did not get lost. He only left us when he was sure that we were OK. If the hotel or the city of Kaohsiung is to expect more visitors, I feel that some minor changes have to be decided on. I appreciate all the efforts from the Hotel and express my sincere gratitude to everyone for making my stay tolerable. Si Yu'us Ma'ase.

Classy hotel, beautiful view, excellent staff

Cons: Room carpet
Really enjoyed the stay. Toted 2 elderly parents and appreciated the attentive caring staff every step of the way. Very clean hotel, aged but well maintained classic furniture. Room carpet can use some replacement. Glad that TVs look brand new and are updated flat screen sonys. Overall excellent stay, would visit again.

great hotel

Pros: attached to Hanxin mall, close to Lingya night market, Xinjuejiang, and Sanduo district. Great location hands down. Great view as well!
Cons: nothing major really. Long hallway and bad choice of carpet

Nice hotel

All the staffs are helpful and friendly. Take taxi 5-10 mins can reach the ferry station to Cijin Island.

Not a five-star hotel...

No iron and ironing board provided in the room, and items ran out when requested. Hotel housekeeping manager insisted on charging a fee ironing services, when the hotel itself does not have enough supplies to provide to all guests. Took a long time to argue and explain to the housekeeping staff before eventually agreeing to provide the ironing service on the house. This was host hotel for Global Harbor Cities Forum, an international convention. Incidents like this should never happened, not to mention arguing with customers. Hotel also needs to update it's interiors decor as it appeared to be quite aging.
