For the money, this is a great hotel to stay during a vacation to Phuket (Kata Island). I went during the Covid19 "sandbox" system. This meant there were very few people there. The staff was helpful but had limited English fluency (this usually wasn't a problem -- but don't expect any detailed discussions on something urgent). Even with all of the covid19 protocols, they did their best when my information got lost in the bureacratic shuffle. The rooms are what you should expect for 20 USD/night. It has a faux French feel to it. Thin but clean beds. Nice shower and bath but the construction is shabby. Everything has a 'cheap' feel compared to what they are emulating. Still, for the price, great hotel!

Excellent hotel. The location is super, to the sea 3 minutes straight. Good cleaning, free mini bar. Minus - very dirty curtains in the room!

The hotel location is convenient to walk around to the beaches and shops and restaurant. Their corner Marina restaurant offers cooking dishes video and excellent fresh seafood. But the property is old and needs TLC. Upon our arrival, the air conditioning unit had water leaking, lucky the maintenance crew arrived soon to fix this issue. When we check out in the early morning, the checkout staff reported missing glasses in our unit, which cause us some frustration to explain

Economy resort close to beach right in middle of town. I stayed there 2 time. Great stay for the money if you are on a budget. Elevator was not working for 4 days. WiFi was very spotty and no hot water on second stay due to a power outage.

Great location
We had a great time during our stay. The location of the hotel was ideal: just a few minutes walk to the beach. We were upgraded to a pool view room at no extra charge which was very appreciated.

Nice and clean hotel within 5 mins to the beach
The hotel is nice and clean, within 5 mins walking to Kata beach. The beach water is warm and clean, excellent for body boarding and swimming. Try out the restaurant nearby - Natalie, reasonable price for delicious seafood. And you can get a tailor made suite at Harry - a good and friendly service by Chris.

We stayed here 4 nights. Compared to other places we stayed while in Thailand, this one seemed a little expensive considering the state of the place. But it was a good location and the rooms were mostly still comfortable. We rented 3 rooms and all had the same issues with the showers. mid shower they would turn cold then go scolding hot, you would have to step to the side to avoid the water because of how hot it was. It did this on its own without touching the tap. It was terrible. The taps in our bathroom were not clean they had water spots on them as did the shower glass and mirrors in the room. The bathroom sink had built up dirt and just looked old and dirty. Didn't look like it had been cleaned properly. The bed cover on my bed also had stains on it. The pool area looked a little run down, you could see the outdoor showers underneath that seperate building that overlooks the pool, had missing shower heads and weeds had started to take over. Aside from that, the room was comfortable, and the hotel had everything we needed. The buffet breakfast was the best we had during our visit to thailand. So much food. Staff were friendly.

Mediocre hotel, good location
Had an average experience at Sugar Marina Resort-Fashion. My gf and I spend 6 nights at Sugar Marina. The location of the hotel was strategic, as it is a 3 mins walk to the beach and close to many restaurants and convenience shops like 7-eleven. However, besides the great variety of choices during breakfast and the free refill of the minibar, the hotel lacks proper cleaning staff, as our room were slightly dirty when we first checked in. In addition, I would advise you to fork out additional money for a room upgrade, as our initial room choice (cheapest option), was facing a stone brick wall with no view in sight. The pool was also slightly dirty around it edges, and there is only one worn-out lift for the entire hotel, though it doesn't seem like a big problem for the guests, as most of them opt to walk up the stairs.

Not what I expected...
Unfortunately I did not have the best experience at the Sugar Marina Resort. First, the hotel is very dated and the room was not as comfortable as advertised. The breakfast is average but the cleanliness of the pool and spa is good. The main reason for my poor experience at this hotel was due to an incident that occurred when my partner and I were sick. We had become incredibly ill with food poisoning and were hold up in our room for over 12 hours. We managed to leave the room to get more toilet paper and water so we thought we could ask the reception desk to grab us these 2 items as we were unfit to go any further than the hotel. To our surprise when we reached the desk and asked for these items we were told 'it's too late, we are closed go to 7/11' to which the reception attendent returned to watching television in the back room behind the desk. I was fairly shocked and disgusted that we weren't assisted to get these 2 very simple, basic items when we were both clearly very unwell. I did not feel overly comfortable at this hotel overall and was disappointed.

good price that's pretty close to the beech
Stayed only for a few hours. Had a red-eye flight so wanted some place to tie us over. Checked in at 3pm checked out at midnight. The pool was small and not the cleanest so did not go in the pool. The hotel was super close to the beach but not right on the beach front, so it was a balance between price and accessing the beach. The area was pretty quiet, but I think it might be one of the busier part of Kata Beach. The waves were great for surfing when we were there. And surf house was super close to the hotel. Booked the room for the sake of going to surf house. For the price, I think it was a good value.

Situated only a 2 min walk from kata beach this hotel made it easy for us to get around the city by foot or by taxi. The rooms were ok. Bed is a bit hard. Wifi is spotty, kept getting bumped off and having to relog in. Staff was very nice and accommodating to any need we had, i.e. More towels, coffee etc. if you are looking for an inexpensive lodging option this hotel would do the trick

great location but the hotel needs upgrading
The hotel staff were great. The room itself could have used a bit of an upgrade. The water pressure in the shower was too low to wash my hair and the tub didn't have a plug for the drain. I ended up washing my hair in the tub and plugging up the drain with a washcloth. The fake "Prada" shoe in the bathroom was filthy.

Good value for the money. Close to the beach. The hotel staff is trying hard to be helpful. They may not understand you but will always say "yes". The buiding shows some wear and tear, but you get what you paid for.

Reviews sounded quite run down. However from my experience the hotel provide clean room and amenities are complete. I enjoyed the bathtub a lot as well. The bed is really comfy, the staff are very helpful and provide us smile and good service. I felt like the hotel have given me more than what i have paid. I am very happy with my stay.

Excellent property. Room was clean and modern. Breakfast cheaper then listed on the website, only 250THB. Excellent pool access room. Housekeeping were immaculate and very detailed. Friendly staff. Cons- 1/constant smell of smoke on the balcony when neighbors smoked. 2/Shower struggled to maintain constant temperature, had to keep fiddling with the taps. 3/Taxi took me to the wrong hotel, ensure the taxi knows the correct location as there are two Sugar Marina hotels in Kata. 4/Ridiculous closing time of the pool (8pm)

Transferred to a Different Hotel
We arrived mid-July 2016, the pool was under construction. I thought it was not a big deal since the beach is only a block away. But as soon as the morning comes, the construction noise was on full blast. My only option was to transfer to a different Sugar Marina nearby. For the the one day and one night I was in Sugar Marina Fashion, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel room itself was very spacious; however, was dirty to my standard. There was sand and dust on the floors and in the bathroom. The bathroom itself was not thoroughly cleaned, which is not hygienic. I'm not sure how a deer's head trophy on the wall is considered "Fashion". I believed they tried to make this hotel an upscale-edgy feel, but didn't succeed. Even though the beach is only a block away, I won't be coming back to this hotel.

My husband and I arrived at 12.47am to a hotel that was under renovation. First, we thought that only the restaurant Black Pearl was under renovation. Upon reaching the lobby, we were greeted by an empty pool, piles of cement, pallets of new tiles, exposed wires overhead and construction workers sleeping around the drained out pool. A male receptionist grunted his hello and asked for our reservation. When I asked why the hotel was in that condition, he didn't reply but asked me to complete a check-in form and gave me the room key. I was told to stay for the night and that we would be moved to another hotel in the morning. Looking around, we realised we were the only guests of a hotel that was undergoing a complete overhaul! It was just one receptionist and vacant rooms, no lights, no aircon, nothing!!! We are shocked that the hotel is still taking in reservations knowing full well it is under renovation. I insisted that we be moved to their sister hotel immediately.

Great location for families
One of the best value resorts in Kata if not Phuket. Secluded in a quiet and tranquil place away from the buzzing streets of Phuket, this place offers so much for such great value. Sleep in, get up early or just switch off from the rat race, you will feel at home here. We will be back and I highly recommend this resort. Staff are wonderful always willing to help and assist.

The room we stayed for the first night has a bathtub in the room, rather than in bath room, so I felt a bit strange and asked for change of rooms. They're fully booked that day but we were able to settled in to reasonablly arranged room. Staff working here are nice and helpful. In room dining is no too pricy. If you are not looking for huge swimming pool and ocean view rooms, then this hotel is for you. It's not facing busy street so quite at night.

It's a little bit overrated
My friend & I stayed here for two night in December, before the peak holiday seasons. The room size and amenities are okay. It's not well built (low quality interiors, wall paint is on furniture, etc) and not well maintained. The hallway floor, the elevator, and overall is dusty. The worst thing is its cleanliness -- my bathroom tub hasn't been drained for a few days (who knows) so the tub has this yellow strain with dirty water in it, the towels have some bad smell that I had to ask for replacement. In sum, I think the hotel is a bit overrated. In my opinion, lower prices & less stars will be more appropriate.

Superb
6th year in a row staying here whilst taking part in the Kings Cup Sailing Regatta. Looked after superbly as usual by the room cleaners, breakfast staff and reception. Lovely people always with a smile. Can't wait til next December.

LOCATION!!!
Stayed in a pool access room. It was ok, shower was a bit dirty. I think it needs a bit of an upgrade. Hotel staff were nice, although we had to go through 5 staff out front to find someone that could understand a bit of English. Buffet breakfast wasn't that great compared to other resorts I've stayed at, less variety. The only thing really great about this place is the location. There's restaurants, massage parlours & a bit of shopping right out front. Beach is literally not 5 minutes walk straight ahead as you walk out front of the hotel. Would I stay there again? Probably not. There are other resorts nearby that cost close to the same price that are nicer & better value for your money.
