OK place to stay I guess

None of the issues with this hotel were egregious, but they are highlighted more because we just stayed at the Bali Hai Villas in North Kauai (which were wonderful).
First thing: upon check-in I was hit with a $125 cleaning charge. I was staying there for 3 nights. If it was just built in to the room cost I might have chosen a different hotel based on price.
Second thing: they have a beach towel collateral system that seems over the top. If you want a beach towel, you need to go to the beach activities center (can't even get them at the front desk) and you have to give them back the towel to get your towel card back.
Third thing: room was totally outdated, none of the furniture was comfortable (especially the bed).
Fourth: staff was just not friendly. Went to exchange my towel cards for some towels and they snapped at me like they were annoyed I was asking, saying they were out of towels and more would be arriving soon. At 10 am on a Sunday. How are you already out of towels at 10 am on a Sunday? And if you're going to make me exchange these cards for towels, be good about having the towels on hand.
Fifth: my receipt for the extra charge said Room XXX (Dirty). I'm not sure what that meant, but it shouldn't be on their customer receipt.
I thought this was a 4-star hotel based on the ratings. It is not. It is close to the beach, and that's it.
