Seward Rental

Posted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: Sheets and pillows smelled clean
When we arrived, the cleaning person was in the next apartment, so we asked her if we could stash our bags in our unit while we explored the town. She was gracious, said yes. While we were in the unit, one of us wanted to refill her water bottle, so did at the kitchen sink. The sink did not drain. We checked the bathroom sink, and it was very slow but did eventually drain. We caught up with the cleaning person again and told her the kitchen sink was stopped up; she said she'd call someone to unclog it. When we got back to the unit several hours later, we checked the sink again, and there was a greasy dirty ring around the drain. It looked like someone used a dirty plunger on it. It was still stopped up. It stayed stopped up til we left, and we spent two nights in Seward. Yuuck!

Nice hotel above the beach

Posted Aug 17, 2015
Clean, convenient hotel with a short hike to beach and an Eagle's nest was in a tree overlooking the beach. Tide came in quick. Collected coal on beach to burn in outdoor fire pit.

Friendly staff, clean hotel a little far from the pier in homer. Otherwise it was a good choice. Not much more to choose from.

Way overpriced

Clean and nice views of the bay if you're lucky enough to get a second floor room, but way overpriced for the quality you get.

Make sure you get an upstairs room

Posted Jul 15, 2015
Pros: Beautiful views, decent location. Clean room.
Cons: Internet speed. I don't think the thin walls can be improved without major renovation.
Stayed here for a few nights in July. The hotel is really more a motel, with 1980's decor - which was fine, as I didn't spend a lot of time in my room. It's in a beautiful location, with views of the water/mountains. There are three rows of buildings, progressively further and further back from the water. I wrote in April, asking about staying in the front building, which ended up costing more. So I requested an upstairs room in one of the back buildings. When I checked in, no upstairs rooms were available, but I could still enjoy most of the view. The room, while a bit tired, had a microwave, fridge, etc. and was clean. It did smell a bit musty, and I wondered if perhaps it used to be a smoking room. The real problem being downstairs was the non-stop foot clomping from upstairs units - and not even just directly above me (which woke up at 5am and walked around for a full hour) but also from rooms adjacent to that one. The walls (and ceilings/floors) are thin, and I didn't sleep more than 5 hours. These were not necessarily noisy neighbors; it's just the way it's built. If you're unfortunate enough to need internet access on your vacation in Alaska, be aware that the internet, at least in the third building, is exceptionally slow (less than 1 mbps), and you could only use one device at a time.

Built in the 70's and never upgraded since.

Posted Jun 29, 2015
We stayed here in June. The hotel looks like it was built in the 70's and never upgraded. Walls are paper thin. We heard normal conversation (and way more) from the next room. The sun is out all night but there were no room darkening blinds/drapes. Had to drape a blanket over the window. No amenities at all. Very clean though. Spectacular view but overall not worth the exorbitant room fee.
