Not having up-to date door keys to allow you to access the room I was unable to access my room on two occasions as when the staff had had to let me in with their master key because the keys would not read the door for two days. This has happened they had to give me an extra Metal key to open the door as the electronically key would not work, then the keythat the manager made me aware of that was 20 years old had snapped when I tried to open the door with the key the manager was very rude I felt very pushed distressed and wanted me to pay for this when I simply explained that I should not have been in the convenience of being in the situation where I had to use the key in the first place and I said you had pointed out that you have been using these keys for the last 20 years. Do you not think that they may have been worn due to wear and tear or a faulty key nevertheless I wouldn’t be in the situation, where I would have to use the key to open the door, if the electronic keys would work in the first place and had been up-to-date and not faulty I had found the this lady manager which was around 60 to 70 years old would blonde, curly kind of hair, very rude and very very arrogant. When I explained I would not be happy to pay £50 for a new key as I did not feel at fault also, she had she had pressed me quite a lot asking me squinting her eyes. Why did I not phone up and let them know about a dinner reservation when I politely explained something that came up and I was unable come

Whilst I would not normally wish to comment adversely on our guests, I feel I need to explain the content of this review. The family made a last minute reservation with us and sadly were extremely disrespectful of our services and facilities. We allow children to use the swimming pool during certain times and ask that they are supervised by an adult and behave in a respectful manner. The children of this family upset many other guests by jumping in and being very noisy and also using inflatables which we do not allow. The parents booked a table for our Valentine's Dinner on the 14th and did not arrive for their table, inspite of being called to ask if they were coming. We were fully booked that evening and could have sold the table but Mr Doran did not accept any responsibility for the no show, simply informing me on departure that they were late leaving their son's club. Their electronic keycard did not work on arrival, so they were given the physical key which they managed to break inside the lock. When I tried to explain this I was told that the lock was faulty and it was not their fault. I did not say that the key was 20 years old, I explained politely that we had been using these keys without any problems for 20 years. Mt Doran was exprtremely rude and offensive when he checked out, refusing to pay for any damages and barely gave me the opportunity to speak at all. They also left the room in a dreadful state on departure with marks on the walls and waste everywhere. We are not accustomed to having behaviour like this in the hotel and find it very distressing.

Lovely little spa hotel. Had the best massage and facial. So relaxing. Every member of staff I encountered were lovely and helpful. Nice little breakfast in the morning.

Comfortable well appointed room. Has grown to quite a large hotel but retains a feeling of a small country house particularly in the old building. Nice pool & sauna facilities. Good breakfast included.

Beautiful hotel in quiet location, great spa facilities and lovely restaurant. Room was very warm and not great sound proofing, we could clearly hear the guests in the next room using the loo which they did regularly throughout the night so we didn’t get a good nights sleep. No Prosecco in the restaurant which would have been very disappointing however it prompted me to try English sparkling wine which I never would have tried and it was delicious!! All in all a very pleasant stay and we will definitely return.

I think I was a bit unlucky. Lovely hotel and staff were very lovely. My room had flaking paint and no air con. I also had kitchen fans outside my window. The pool area was great although there was a few glasses left around the seating area, real shame because it’s lovely

Stayed with my girlfriends in a Ashby Suite, with lovely double room and a lounge with a comfortable sofa bed. It had a kitchen with cooker but only one bathroom so if the person sleeping in the lounge had to use bathroom in the night they had to go through other bedroom where others were sleeping to do their deed. Ladies at the reception were pleasant and smiley, wouldn’t say the same for bar staff, in the morning went to get some milk so we could enjoy coffee in our suite with milk because there wasn’t any in there (would have been a nice touch seeing as there was coffee and tea there anyway), a barman looked miserable as sin, no good morning no please, no thank you. Facilities are clean, didn’t eat at hotel so can’t rate the food but it looked fairly busy with older folk. The downside is that there isn’t much around, to get to town where there are few bars and restaurants, you will pay £10 for a taxi and to return later in the night it will be double that. A little odd thing we found was that to get from our suite to spa we had to walk through the hall, through dining room and bar in our dressing gowns. In the morning, there was aerobics in the swimming pool and so we weren’t able to enjoy a swim, we weren’t made aware of it at any point upon arrival and I didn’t see any posters there anywhe… Would we return? We all agreed that most like we wouldn’t but that is not to say that I wouldn’t recommend it to others, perhaps more suitable for older generation though..

Relaxing celebration break.
We had a lovely night away celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. A gem of a find as it was perfect. The hotel is comfortable and the staff are very attentive. The massages were very good and the spa pools area nice (quite noisy with the jets though). We really enjoyed our meals and the lovely touch, silver confetti on our table and a message on a plate with petit fours. Highly recommend for a special break away.

I have stayed in hotels with a higher star rating that are not a patch on this, especially where cleanliness is concerned. Special mention to the front of house lady at check in, set the tone and a credit to the company. The only negative feedback would be to urge the spa bar staff to acknowledge their customers at the counter in a timely manner, however busy they are, if there are two bar staff and a spa receptionist behind the counter (and there was also a lady who wondered behind texting and then wondered off), it wouldn't hurt for one of you to say hello or I will be with you soon. However, all in all, a fabulous experience and i was unable to reduce the staff rating, as it wouldn't be fair to front of house, the restaurant and restaurant bar staff who were all absolutely wonderful.

Overall the stay was pleasant. Reception staff were extremely friendly & efficient. However we were in room 1A and the presence of doves nesting just below our window were extremely noisy - and the bird mess on the window sill was quite disturbing & unpleasant and clearly a possible health hazard. The traffic noise from A2 was disruptive- even with a closed window (because of the bird mess) & the room was unpleasantly warm. The water pressure was incredibly poor in both the shower and basin. I have stayed at this hotel before and was disappointed with the room for the above reasons and overall size - certainly not worth £205 when I know what other rooms are available for the same price

Have stayed at Hempstead House several times. Decided on a last minute stay over. Spa is modern and clean and the treatments are great. Rooms are lovely and each one slightly unique from the others. Food in the restaurant is good they have a great vegan option. Great value for money and will be coming back not doubt soon.

Really nice place. Very relaxing. Staff couldn't do more for you. Room was nice, bathroom was nice, with a very powerful shower. The pool, sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy pool, etc were lovely. Very quiet (on a week day at least!). Would definitely go again for a mid week unwind.

I had an enjoyable stay although I was poorly during it and stayed in my room after work. I didnt have the opportunity to use the gym, spa or bar and restaurant. The room was a little cramped and bathroom slightly ill fitted but overall pleasant.

Lovely Saturday night impulse stay for a mini spa break. Great facilities and excellent customer service by the friendly staff. Only slight negative was not made clear that one of the restaurants is closed at weekends, which left only the a la carte restaurant available.

I have stayed here 3 times now, the welcome and checking in is excellent. Pre arrival questions and info excellent. Rooms tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. Dinner menu,superb and breakfast yummy. All staff professional, friendly and very helpful. A wonderful relaxing experience.
