Abbots Fireside

"Old Tavern and Inn"
The Abbots Fireside dates from the 1600's. There are narrow spiral stairs to second floor. The room floors slope to the window wall. The doors are short and open with a skeleton key. That being said, it has nice hot water for a pleasant shower, the street noise is minimal after a certain hour. I wish that the bed did not slope toward the wall - made you feel like you would fall out of bed. However, it was clean, quiet and quaint. The owners are extremely nice, and very helpful. The town of Elham is quaint and quiet during the night, which is a plus. I would recommend this hotel for someone who has light luggage and likes a bit of history.

This is one of the cleanest hotels we have stayed at,staff so friendly and helpful it made it feel more like a family run hotel than a chain, two small gripes cant turn heating down and spare pillows past the usable life, own fault didn't complain but only a two night stay so not a problem

The most adorable hotel by the water in the cutest seaside town. Walking distance to great local restaurants. Nice staff. Delicious breakfast. Cute, spacious rooms. Only drawback is no elevator but that is minor.

"Great Location"
Booked two rooms to stay there with my mother and my partner. The rooms were on different floors and when asking for rooms adjacent to each other, unfortunately none were available. It would have been great to have been given the option. My mothers room was very small, I assume because they knew only one person would be within it, however the price was the same for both of our rooms. Our room did not have a bath. Seeing as there was no swimming pool or jacuzzi as part of the Spa, I would have hoped for at least a nice hot bath at the end of the day. The hotel only has one small elevator that serves the whole building, so be careful if you have big luggage. We ate at the restaurant for dinner. It is quite expensive. We had a fish main, which was completely dry, both starters were very small and overpriced. I would recommend eating out in the town centre for better quality of food and value.

"Weekend getaway"
We had a two night stay in Canterbury in September and stayed at the abode. The hotel was in a great location in the centre of the town and was lovely though the bedroom was small. We had breakfast on the first morning which OK - not the best cooked breakfast but ok. However we had cream tea in the afternoon which was delicious The only thing which upset our stay a little was a busker who started playing outside the hotel at midnight on Saturday. We expected the hotel staff to move him on but they didn't until we complained.

"Lovely, comfortable place to stay in Canterbury"
As a solo traveller, I booked a twin room, as often double rooms are quite cramped. My room was spacious, beautifully decorated and absolutely spotless. The hotel is in its own grounds, with free parking and just a 10 minute walk to the city centre and all the amazing touristy things we love to do. The food was great, well presented and delicious and the restaurant staff were lovely. There is a sign at the hotel saying there are extensions and room upgrades on their way; judging from my experience, they must be pretty amazing! I had been looking at two other hotels for my stay but changed my mind at the last moment - and was delighted that I did so. Thank you to all staff at Abbots Barton; you do a great job!

"Excellent city centre tranquility. "
Stayed for a mid-week 2 night break. Location is brilliant but you must pre-book the onsite parking. Room was compact but perfectly suitable (we prefer a king size bed but has forfeited this for the location). Loved the cathedral view and walking back from our meal in town at 10pm we enjoyed sitting in the grounds with no-one around. Very special. Breakfast was great and the fact that we had access to the cathedral for 3 days made the hotel even more reasonably priced.
