Could have been better.

Overall hotel and pub were good. Would stay again if in area. Couple of things could have made it lot better though. Staff all young and quite impersonal. They were not rude, just uncaring and the guy that checked us in did not make us feel very welcomed. Room was a little tired could do with some TLC. It had all we needed for 1night. Breakfast not included but on Sunday it starts at 9 which was too late for us. We left at 8.15 and no-one was around to check us out. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday night and food was very good. Setting lovely in a small village and pub had a lovely garden.

This is an old village pub decorated with Dickensian themed pictures and trinkets. The room was well kept but the door to the bathroom was very low, causing much cussing. The breakfast was excellent.

Pros: History of the place, clean, with great staff!
Cons: Make sure the huge Peacock turns up every morning in the car park to be fed cookies from your hand :)
Location: Close to Gravesend, Rochester, Canterbury and within an hour of the Devon coast. Easy to catch a train from Gravesend into London.
We were visiting the UK for a funeral and staying at the Leather Bottle provided a sanctuary from a difficult experience. Having a pint in the garden with the sun setting over the trees was a welcome experience at the end of a tough day. The history of the place is everywhere if you like that kind of thing and the English Breakfast in the morning is excellent. We would stay there again.

Cons: Customer service by treating customers with respect please would not go amiss.
Location: One street of village but did have walks there but cars do drive very fast there so be careful.
Arrived to be told that breakfast is extra even though we paid and booked in Feb this year. Manger phoned Expedia and as she did not get straight through my husband asked her if she was going to honour our booking. Luckily we had printed of details stating breakfast included. We were made to feel uncomfortable through no fault of our own and feel customer service was poor with how we were treated. For this reason we would not recommend this place. Bathroom was separate from bedroom along the landing.

Pros: Old, warm and friendly with loads of character, lots of wood and creaky floor boards!
Cons: Lovely old room but the en suite in desperate need of a revamp, nice 4 poster bed but we found it very uncomfortable!
Location: Was only passing through but Rochester well worth a visit, great castle, cathedral, and old shops.
Friendly staff, a lovely old building with heaps of history only had one nights stay the evening meal we had was excellent!

Pros: Atmosphere, location and history
Cons: I would welcome a selection of malt whisky behind the bar?
I was only here for 1 night, but this was a very pleasant night. I was given a warm welcome and a comfortable room. The menu and food were good, as was the beer; what more can you ask? I would look forward to returning.

Room was cool but comfortable bed. Electric shower was either scolding or freezing. Breakfast was 8-9am. Was promised a take out breakfast but it never materialised. Main part of the meal there was good. Sides and desert were poor.

Pros: Bed, food, location
Location: Rochester is a lovely town, close to Ebsfleet for the train to France and an hour away from the major ferry ports. An hour from London.
We were visiting some friends in the area so only needed a bed and a meal. The bed was clean & comfy (lovely quilt!) food in the restaurant was very good and breakfast substantial. The only drawback was the bathroom being across the hall & not en suite but it was private. The staff were pleasant and helpful - a nice stay overall.
