Escape to relaxing Khao Yai National Park! Enjoy its waterfalls and safaris.

Khao Yai National Park is Thailand’s oldest national park and the third largest in the country. Magnificent tropical forest covers most of the 2,168-square-kilometre (837-square-mile) park, with lush ferns, bamboo trees and palms decorated with colourful mosses, lichens and fungi. See stunning waterfalls, majestic Asian elephants, mischievous macaques and a wide array of bird and plant species. Hike, drive or raft through the park and stay overnight in a lodge or camping site.

Enter the park via its northern (Pak Chong) or southern (Prachin Buri) entrances. A road leads through the park between Pak Chong and Nakhon Nayok to the west. The visitor centre is approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) up the steep mountain road from the north entrance. At the visitor centre, book tours, purchase trail maps and learn about the Khao Yai National Park’s impressive ecology and biodiversity.

Join an exciting wildlife tour and see the park’s stunning native animals. Find pig-tailed macaques, enormous Asian elephants, chattering parrots and gibbons swinging through the trees. Tours also include swimming in natural springs, visiting Buddhist temples and exploring bat caves. After sunset, try a nighttime tour to see nocturnal animals.

If you’re feeling adventurous, explore over 50 kilometres (31 miles) of hiking trails, from 1-hour trips to multi-day hikes. Kayak or raft in the rivers near to Prachin Buri. Camp overnight in designated camping zones and fall asleep to the wild sounds of the rainforest. Use your own equipment or rent a tent and sleeping gear from the camping ground. Lodges and cabins are also available for overnight stays. Small cafés and food stalls can be found along the main road near to the visitor centre.

Khao Yai National Park is located in the Sankamphaeng Mountain Range, mostly in the Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Catch a bus or train to Pak Chong, then join an organized tour from here or hire a car or motorbike and enjoy the park at your own pace.
