The hotel is situated just far enough off the beach to keep you dry but close enough to hear the waves and the birds (and the occasional aircraft). The trail leading to the shoreline is clean and well maintained. The hotel itself is a very nice structure, with a weathered but modern appearance. I was graciously upgraded to an ocean side room. It was very welcoming after my drive from the mid-state, the beds roomy and clean. There was a small kitchenette area with microwave and mini-fridge. It was a little tight in this area, but not so much it spoiled anything. The TV and free wi-fi were also very good, with no interruptions or issues. The bathroom was much larger than I was used to for a hotel bath, well-stocked and excellently maintained. In addition to the nicely decorated and comfortable room, the porch/ deck area was well designed with sturdy wooden chairs and tables to sit and enjoy the sunrise. The staff was very friendly, making sure that I knew where everything was in the hotel area. Maintenance and housekeeping staff made sure I had what I needed without disturbing my time. I really appreciated that. I make it a point to come to the coast every year in the winter, finding a lot of relaxation in the lesser crowds and off-season atmosphere. The Days Inn by Wyndham Kill Devil Hills Oceanfront will be at the top of my list next year when I begin to plan.
