Total disappointment

Disappointed. When i got to my room after check in I found the room was half ready and this was after the 2pm check in time. Linen and pillows on the floor and i had to contact reception to send house keeping. Only 1 elevator services the entire hotel and is also used by house cleaning staff and laundry services. Also the door takes ages to close. Terrible wifi, keeps dropping. No shade around pool area and hotel supplies umbrella for free which is great but only if you can get one. Noticed a shortage of umbrellas and also guests take them to their rooms. Staff very unfriendly besides a few and breakfast staff don't even remove plates after you finish a corse. You have to call them to remove dirty dishes. Front desk staff don't know what is going out. When I checked out a day earlier as I couldn't stay a day longer, the gentleman at front desk asked me for payment. I had to show him my receipt and only then did he believe me that I paid for room when I arrived. Even then i was charged again for the room after I checked out. I had to call the hotel to find out what was going on and then they realized they double charged me and refunded the money. I booked 2 rooms on Hotels.com under my name and my brother in laws name and I paid for both rooms upon check in. The check in staff allocated the entire amount to one room. As I mentioned before front desk staff don't know what they doing. The manager did call and apologized but for a Marriot property this is totally unacceptable.

Experience at Protea Karridene Beach Hotel

My stay was lovely. The staff and overall experience was good. Good entertainment for kids. A bit of a distance from the Durban airport. To get to the beach is a bit of a walk and quite an incline when you finally get to the end of the wooden path way. It makes the return journey a little tiresome/complicated.
