Hotel was clean and had lovely feather pillows on the bed. Staff were pleasant and accomodating when we asked to change to a room with a shower in instead of a bath.

Dirty - not worth the money

Pros: Absolutely nothing
Cons: Absolutely everything
Can't believe someone as big as the Protea hotel allows a hotel in this condition to be open. From doors not being able to be locked, to dirty showers - wouldn't be surprised if the beds were full of bed bugs and mites etc - hence choosing to sleep on top of the covers....

The staff were friendly and helpful. The lounge area was neat and clean. The room not so great - awful shower facilities; small and neglected, in need of a good scrub! The towels were old and hard. Poor ventilation throughout. The supper at the on site restaurant was very good but the breakfast did not offer much variety. It was my first time in town on business; it would have been useful if there was a map at reception.

my worst stay ever at a hotel, let alone Protea

Had the worst stay at a protea hotel in Klerksdorp the shower kept blocking and water was rising on the floor. At the wee hours of the morning a hotel employee budged in our room with a master key saying he was looking for sugar. If that was not enough their kitchen only had a two plate stove so we waited in line to get a hot breakfast.

Well I booked online to pay on arrival. I booked for 3 adult’s bed and breakfast. When I got to the hotel they told me its bed only and even after we showed the receptionist my confirmation for b&b she still said the price is only for bed. So after complaining to the GM he luckily included breakfast. Why do you have to complain after I could even show my confirmation, she could have taken it and sorted it out without us knowing. The shower was disgusting with black mould everywhere and even thou we booked for 3 adults there were only 2 towels in the room. So not happy at all

Ok for a one night stay!

The check in staff were completely confused regarding the HOTELS.COM booking, my TV didnt work and when I asked for a different room I was told they could not help me as they were fully booked... I then asked for a refund so that I could go elsewhere and they offered me a smoking room! was not chuffed but it turned out to be not so bad! NO SMOKE SMELL, the breakfast was sufficient although for the price tag maybe a bit pricey for the limited selection, on checkout I was presented with a bill more than what I had been quoted on HOTELS and asked for my credit card, I refused! They phoned me later to say that my accommodation had not been paid for! ... useless admin! I was totally irritated!
