Great place. Would easily go back to Basaga.
We were picked up by Brandon in the Basaga Shuttle Bus. Brandon immediately was very friendly. We did our thing around Kuching but then decided to book a tour with Brandon, best thing we did. His knowledge of everything and his down to earth personality surely would win anyone over. We ended booking three tours with Brandon. Worth every ringtt. We visited Sarawak Culture Tour. Kuching Cat Museum. Semenggoh Orangutans. Museums, Matang Wildlife Centre. Evening River Cruise. Orchid Farm. Shopping, shopping, shopping! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Kuching.

Urban getaway.
Checking in was easy and very fast. The lobby was nicely decorated. The room was kinda old and dirty. At least all the facilities were working fine with the exception for the TV reception. The pool was kinda disappointing with all the leaves and twigs from the surrounding trees in it. Worse is that guests are allowed to smoke at the pool and it was a real turn-off. The stay was disappointing with the neighbouring guests walking like a stampede on the wooden floors upstairs or were they "renovating" their room late at night and early in the morning. Buffet breakfast was simple and OK and check-out was fast and easy.

Good hotel great holiday
I really liked this place,we booked specifically because it had the pool and outdoor seating to relax. The downside was mosquito bites if you sat near the pool or in restaurant seating in the daytime. Around 30 minutes walk to waterfront but the hotel has 2 free transfers into town every day you just have to make your own way back. The staff were all great and we used Brendan to arrange tours which were really good. Bathrooms could do with an update.

Nothing Fantastic
Very poor internet connection. I was asked to do ironing at the lobby. After I argued and complaint saying that the hotel website said "available upon request" then only the iron was sent to the room. But concept is good. Cafe and bar have good ambient. For holiday is ok. Work trip not suitable.

Tranquil gem in the city
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The room was reasonably clean, but there is room for improvement. Toilets are not cleaned well enough. Staff need to be trained to be more friendly to guests, especially the night guard, who was pretty unfriendly. As we stayed on the ground floor, it was noisy at night. Soundproofing was bad. There was a lot of stomping and loud voices from the guests above us. The second and third night were not as bad.

Quiet place surrounded by nature
Booked this place for my family members to stay as I have stayed here once. The residence is like a hidden gem in Kuching city; this place is peaceful and quiet, has very beautiful nature surroundings, friendly and approachable staffs, and breakfast was simple yet delicious.

A nice, friendly, well-run hotel.
This is a nice, friendly, well-run hotel within easy reach of the airport and downtown Kuching. The staff are great and the food in the restaurant during the evening was excellent. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel with everything on tap, this is not for you. But if you are looking for a clean, pleasant and affordable place to stay, Basaga Holiday Residences would be hard to beat.

nice hotel, very friendly and helpful
I was very happy with the tour guide associated with the hotel - Brendan; he was very accommodating and knowledgeable. The hotel is a bit out of the centre of town but they offer a free shuttle to town twice a day. The breakfasts (included) were ample and offered seconds of coffee and juice. The restaurant had quite good meals and reasonable prices.

A gem of a hotel
Great hotel with spacious cool rooms, a large pretty cafe area, friendly helpful staff, tasty breakfasts, a good range of restaurant meals available, and a lovely swimming pool to relax in. Away from town- about 20 minutes walk or 15RM in a taxi-really peaceful place. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed this hotel. It was comfortable, the staff were very helpful in fact they provided a five star service from being collected at the airport through to reception and bar/restaurant staff. We would also give a special mention about Brendon who was a great tour operator. We would highly recommend this hotel and would definately go back.

Great hotel, amazing staff
Our stay here with our 6 year old was very enjoyable. This is a family run business. The staff were warm, friendly and incredibly helpful during our stay. Brandon is the tour organiser and was able to arrange transport and a guide for Bako national park for us. Brandon's knowledge of the parks and attractions is exceptional and he really looked after us. It is worth staying here just for his tours! He also went the extra mile by providing a picnic and dry water proof pack and first aid kit for our trip. His contacts for guides are all ex-national park staff so really know their stuff. Our guide found 3 species of monkeys, vipers and wild boars in the jungle! So amazing to see in the wild. Stay here, you won't be disappointed. The pool and bar are great at the end of the day to chill out at. reception can arrange very affordable laundry service. Taxi to town is 15 MR. Go to the top spot food court for best seafood in town.

Attractive accommodation and gardens - out of town
Attractive accommodation - large verandahs, pool, gardens and nice ambience in the attractive dining/bar area . Looks particularly attractive at night. Breakfasts were average, however, evening meals were good. A little too far to walk into Kuching, although a shuttle bus operated twice a day.

Home from home
This is one of the best places that I've stayed in a long while. They seem to have hit that sweet spot in terms of size creating a great ambience. Small enough for it to feel cosy and homely but large enough for it to have a pool, well stocked bar and restaurant. I ate in the restaurant a few times and the food was really good and reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. It is clearly a hit with not only hotel guests too going by the steady stream of diners each night from outside. The staff were all really welcoming and as a solo female traveller I felt perfectly comfortable spending my evening at the bar and chatting with other guests/staff who were around. There's loads to do in Sarawak - so don't get too comfy in the hotel - remember to get out and explore too!

Oasis in the city
Basaga is a great relaxing place set in lush gardens, less than 2 km from Kuching waterfront. Don't expect 5 star facilities, but rather a very nice homely and always friendly place. Room was simple, yet spacious and rather pleasant, with standard en-suit. A/C and fan, fridge and TV, all in good working order. The place has a very nice feel to it throughout, used by families and couples alike, typically for holiday stays. Staff are all very friendly which certainly added to the pleasant experience. Breakfast is western style with a dozen cooked options, but a couple more cereal options and more fruit, e.g. cut up pine apple and other tropical fruit would be an improvement. Freshly brewed coffee too please! Dinner menu is a mix of western, pizza & local choices and caters for just about all tastes. Can definitely be recommended. Good range of beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Free rides to town twice a day are provided, - otherwise $5 taxi ride any time. There are a number of tours on offer and organised from the hotel. These are run by Brandon and his female friend and are top choices! Both are the friendliest and most honest people you'll ever meet! Really organised, and Brandon is a wealth of knowledge and will go to great lengths to look after your needs. We went on both the mangrove and the orangutang tours and both were very memorable. 7 days in Kuching we'll never forget, and much of this is thanks to the great Basaga experience. Highly recommended!

Like the environment. Even though the wifi connection is poor, bedsheet not very clean, hotel is hard to find as the sign is very small and the lane is very small that you could miss out.

Nice Hotel to discover Kuching
We were extremely happy with our stay. We did a couple of trips around Kuching (National Park, caves, orangutan) which are offert from the Hotel. The private trips are good organised, based what you want to see and in my opinion not over priced for what you get. You can definitely visit all the places by your own, but then you would miss defnetly most stuff which can be seen.

Best family hotel
This hotel is now our favourite. Everything about it was fantastic. We stayed for three weeks and everyone made us feel like part of the family. The food was really good, at the right price. We had the majority of our meals there. Trips with Brandon were great his local knowledge was unsurpassed. This hotel we are recommending to everyone.

Good breakfast but poor bathroom and bedding
Hotel looked good for the price and its free breakfast but their both bath windows in our connecting rooms were open to outside and could not be closed. Towels and bed sheet were not clean. Beds were too soft and old. Because the hotel has bar open for public, it was noise until 12 am.

A well run guest house, good value for money. Dining options not great but ok, bar only open in the late afternoon/evening. We enjoyed our stay, you can walk in to town or make use of the free shuttle service. Very helpful reception, pleasant waiting staff. Internet access in the rooms was weak but at least it was there! Better in public areas. Very characterful older style property but well maintained. An good budget option.

Value for money
Get either a Verandah room or Poolside room, as the Courtyard rooms have no TV/fridge and it's not sheltered from your room to the shower or to the restaurant/hotel lobby. When the monsoon rains come, you are literally stuck inside your room, or at the shower with no way to get to the room without being drenched.

Excellent getaway
Basaga was an excellent place for relaxing. Set in a garden atmosphere all around the bar, lounge, pool area with good service. Good location only RM12 (AUD $4-5) from main part of town. Reception will organise taxis. We paid a bit more and had a good sized room (No. 10) upstairs at end with side windows and king sizebed. Rooms downstairs did look a bit small. Pool area was good. Food was great quality and reasonably priced. Breakfast was freshly cooked for you each morning - no cold buffets here. Would stay again and recommend it as excellent choice for the price we paid.

Excellant Home from Home
This was the third time we have stayed at Basaga. As previously experienced our stay was perfect. I cannot praise this residence enough. The location is good. About 20mins walk from the riverside or 12 ringits by taxi (£2.50) The staff are friendly and helpful and a shuttle to and from airport is provided on request. The food in the restaurant is very good, Breakfast could be better but is Ok. The pool is very nice too . Will stay there again for our next visit to Borneo.

More pluses than minues.
I loved the situation where you're staying in a grove of trees, yet surrounded by suburbs. I loved waking up to the sound of birds singing in the morning. I loved the beautiful hardwood floor & door & window trim. I loved the high ceiling. I didn't use it but the pool looked inviting. I found the breakfast a little better than average. The staff was friendly & helpful. My only minus is... you best be driving a car, if planning on staying here.
